I'm currently working in an RM Cobol environment, and working my way into Visual COBOL. I have a question concerning adjusting the file/record size of existing systems. For example if a record is 1024 Bytes, and more fields need to be added. I currently write a conversion program to convert the file to the new size (Basically creating a new file with the improved layout and moving the old record to the new file). Then I update all the systems that use the file to the new size and layout. Which can be a pain if its very popular file layout. We don't use copybooks (boss has a horror story about helping a city with Cobol who had sources but all the copy books where missing). I was just wondering how you could, with Visual Cobol, do the same thing? And how would you track down which programs need to be rebuilt, in a Visual Cobol world. Finding the programs in RM is as simple as doing a search in the Source Directory for all programs that use the name of the file. But since Visual COBOL us
Our users are connected to a company Intranet, which, if there is no apparent activity for 2 minutes from a user, forces them to sign in again. This is a nuisance, so is there any way of running something in the background that will show activity to the intranet controls? The users do not want any screens popping up. I have tried a few things but normally end up in a tight loop which uses 40% of CPU. Anyone got any suggestions?
In an unpaged grid sort settings can be defined for each column. Does anyone know how a column can be sorted automatically without an user action (not mouse-click on the Header) Something like this: modify grid-1(col3), "sort ascending"
Hi all, We are using version 9.2.0 and we are facing the following problem: Our complex application has 18 files declared in the Data Set. All "File Controls" are of the type: SELECT OPTIONAL MY-FILE ASSIGN TO DISK "FN-MY-FILE" ORGANIZATION IS INDEXED ACCESS MODE IS DYNAMIC LOCK MODE IS MANUAL WITH LOCK ON MULTIPLE RECORDS FILE STATUS IS STATUS-MY-FILE RECORD KEY IS MY-FILE-KEY. So far so well, compilation passes with no error. If we add a 19th file (of the same type) then we get the error: "Too many errors, compilation aborted" with no other info. If we change the lock mode of a file from "MANUAL WITH LOCK ON MULTIPLE RECORDS " to some other e.g. "AUTOMATIC WITH LOCK ON MULTIPLE RECORDS WITH ROLLBACK" then compilation passes with no errors. (To be more detailed, we have now in the Data Set 18 files with lock mode = "MANUAL WITH LOCK ON MULTIPLE RECORDS " and 1 file with lock mode = "AUTOMATIC WITH LOCK
I have a need to generate a Tab Delimited file for export to an off the shelf program. where can I find information on how to insert tab characters between data elements in a line seuential file.
Problem With RM WoW Designer is it possible to limit the length of the lines when the code is generated? Resolution By default, the code generated by WoW designer can be longer than 72 columns. This can cause a problem as the designer does adds the following to the code: >>IMP MARGIN-R IS AFTER END OF RECORD Within the Designer, there are two areas to be able to set options, the options/preferences and the project/options. The project options override the WoW Designer preferences. The option that needs to be selected is the ‘Generate Short (72 column) Lines.’ Incident #2831580 #RMCobol#WoWDesigner
Is there any documentation on the functions exposed in AcuBenchPrint.dll? Thanks! #acubench#Printing
I am facing an issue while using the sample Acucobol program to call Java from cobol. I have small piece of code in my cobol program as : CALL "C$JAVA" USING CJAVA-CALLSTATIC "C:\\Javaprojects\\TestCobol2Java\\bin\\CobolCallingJava", "CobolCallingJavaInt", "(I)I", FIELD-INT, FIELD-RET GIVING STATUS-VAL it returns status-val as "-3" which seems classnot found I have tried with both with or without pathing but it results same. Java program cobolcallingjava.class reside at C:\\Javaprojects\\TestCobol2Java\\bin and cobolcallingjava.acu reside at c:\\maint\\object. I am using Acubench 720 where I could not find the config file. so I modified the cblconfig file as per instructions file. Where do I need to place the config file and keep cobol & java code.? I suspect issue is with different locations. Appreciate your help!#JavaClass
Hi, I am trying to migrate our Server Express 4.0 systems from an AIX 5.3 TL05 LPAR to an AIX 7.1 hosted WPAR running 5.3 TL12. after a test migration we now get the following when compiling a simple program. cob fkey.cobExecution error : file 'direct'error code: 119, pc=0, call=1, seg=0119 Name is not unique (binding symbol 'direct') If we try and run a previously compiled program we get Execution error : file 'mfini'error code: 119, pc=0, call=1, seg=0119 Name is not unique (binding symbol 'mfini') If we revert back to using an earlier level of (AIX 5.3 TL10) within the WPAR it works o.k. We also tried upgrading to Server Express 5.1 but still have the same issue. The WPAR was created using the -l switch so it has its own /usr and /opt I would be grateful for any assistance anyone might be able to provide. cob fkey.cobExecution error : file 'direct'error code: 119, pc=0, call=1, seg=0119 Name is not unique (bindin
Problem: I want to run .NET COBOL applications on my workstation without COBOL Server installed locally. How do I configure this to run a .NET COBOL application from a network COBOL Server installation? Resolution: To run a .NET COBOL application from a network server You can deploy a .NET managed COBOL application on a network server so that all workstations that are mapped to the server can run the application without the need to install COBOL Server 2012 locally on each workstation. Note: Throughout this topic, the installation folders should include the correct name of the targeted deployment product - COBOL Server, COBOL Server 2012, or COBOL Server 2013. Before you can configure your .NET COBOL application, ensure that: COBOL Server 2012 is installed and licensed on the server. The workstations that are accessing the server on the network have the necessary permissions. (see Trust issues below) If your application also uses native code components, you need to setup the lic
hello , I wonder if it is possible comparisons between datagridview thanks
Back in my NetExpress days I could look at the contents of an ISAM file using the Data File Editor. Research indicates that that tool is also available in Visual Cobol, however I cannot seem to figure out how to install it. I'm running version Visual COBOL 2010 R4 Version 1.3.20019. at the moment, and I have a full license. I plan to upgrade to VC 2.2 in the near future, but we're going through something of an infrastructure upgrade here and I'm stuck with a PC running WINXP at the moment. I've gone through the standard upgrade screens on the MicroFocus web site, but I can't seem to find the right path to get the Data File Editor for my version of WC. Can you please perhaps point me in the correct direction to get me started, and let me know if there's anything I need to know prior to installing it? Thanks!

I have 2 separate solutions in the attached zip. One solution - NatCon1 - contains 1 native project - NatCon1. The other solution - ManWin1 - contains 2 managed projects - ManCon1 and ManWin1. These are intended to demonstrate: 1) a native-calling-managed scenario (based on your CCW concept, but using separate solutions), as well as 2) a managed-calling-managed scenario (within the same solution). Here is the weird behavior - in VS2013, when using native NatCon1 Program1 to call managed ManWin1 via "Start Debugging", it appears to honor the forced default setting of the focus onto the Exit button on ManWin1 Form1. (see the "invoke button1::Select()."). But, when doing it via "Start Without Debugging", it appears not to honor the [attempted] forced focus onto that Exit button. The debugging aspect would be associated with the native project, not with the called managed project, so I am confu
Hi, Is there any way to create a managed dll in Visual studio using the CBLLINK utility.? Earlier in our Net Express project we used to create dll using the command: cblLink -d -s -oxyz.dll @xyz.lnk . This command creates a native dll. Is there any way to create a managed dll using the same procedure. I do not wish to use the IDE for dll creation.
Hi These are the default directives which are set in NE. %FILENAME COBIDY(%TARGETDIR) WB3 WB CSI ANIM EDITOR(MF2) ENSUITE(3) nobell errq errlist rawlist linkcount(1024) bound perform-type(osvs) retrylock align"4" I need to replicate these directives in Visual COBOL. Can anybody help in explain the meaning of these directives. specifically " %FILENAME COBIDY(%TARGETDIR) WB3 WB CSI ANIM EDITOR(MF2) ENSUITE(3)" Thanks!
The Micro Focus Developer doc related to CBL_GET-CURRENT-DIR suggests this: "Use the "BY VALUE LENGTH OF directory-name SIZE 4" construct to pass the name-length parameter." Based on the explanation in the doc, if I have a MY-DIR-NAME PIC X(80 and a MY-DIR-NAME-LENGTH PIC 9(4) then I can MOVE LENGTH OF MY-DIR-NAME TO MY-DIR-NAME-LENGTH in order to initialize it to a value of 80 in this example. My question is about the terminology and concept of the "Use the "BY VALUE LENGTH OF directory-name SIZE 4" construct. I would like to see an example of this and/or any links to doc explaining this concept behind this construct. Thanks! OK, Update. I now can see how it might be used. Instead of setting up an actual MY-DIR-NAME-LENGTH variable in working storage to be initialized with the length of MY-DIR-NAME, you can just use the expression "BY VALUE LENGTH OF MY-DIR-NAME SIZE 4" as a phrase at

Hi, I'm trying to develop a new usercontrol with a datagridview and a toolbar and put it in a windows. When I deploy on other machine the hell... I've deploied a small set of the acuthin client object so maybe I've missing something. I've seen that I'll need - acutonet.dll - varcallback.dll - acutonet.tlb I've tried to regasm acutonet.dll ( regasm /codebase /registered acutonet.dll) and this solved the "CoCreate Instance failed" but now I'm stuck with "LoadEntity" problem. I've developed the dll with vs2013, on my machine I've 9.2.4 acuthin, but I'm runing on 7.2.2 acuthin version again 7.2.2 acurcl server linux. Someone can help me? #.net
??? It appears that the Supprt-Line Incident Reporting entry form is suddenly not recognizing "serial number", "product", etc., which this info is no doubt apparently tied to my authorized log-in. These fields are not defaulting nor will they allow entry. This was working last week, as I entered an Incident last week with no problems. ??? Also, when you review existing incidents, they have an incorrect date on them. For example, an incident I entered last week now shows a December 2015 date on it. Thanks, Austin
I am in process of converting Netexpress projects to Visual cobol solution using VS 2013 IDE. The conversion was successful but the newly generated *.sln , *.cblproj files were added to the netexpress directory on top of the existing *.APP files. Is there any way to define the new directory structure for the VS solution files while conversion ?
We are using a VB.NET print module that runs with our current NET EXPRESS dialogs. We are trying to use this print module in our Visual COBOL migration. One of our developers believes if it is compiled as a 32 bit module it can be integrated into our new Visual COBOL projects. We are trying the PREFER 32 option from Visual Studio to recompile this VB.NET module. Are there any other factors with which we should be concerned since it was originally part of NET EXPRESS? Thanks for any insights. Our final environment will be Visual COBOL 2.2 under Visual Studio Professional 2013 under Windows 2012 within a HYPER-V deployment. At first it appeared that Hyper-V was interfering but now we are having problems with the print module itself.
Hello all, I was searching the web for a way to known which is the actual key of reference of an indexed file, but nothing found. I need it to simplify the work of recover the status of files when calls to other subroutines are finished. Thanks afterwards
Hi All, I'm a newbie to Cobol. I'm looking for examples on the standard way to move forward and backward through a database table. When using Xbase/Clipper I would program a entry screen with Function keys that would allow the user to perform database actions, like add, delete move forward and backward through the table. What's the standard way of doing that with Cobol? Are there any beginner examples that people could point me to? Thanks for the help. Best, Peter
Hi, I am facing a problem while calling a program in managed dll from native dll. When a normal call is made from native to managed, it is giving the error code 173 program not found. I have tried copying the managed dll into the debug folder of native project. Also, I have tried including the procedure pointer of managed dll in native code. But it gives the same error every time. is there any pointers on how to proceed or what should be done when we need to call managed from native? Thanks!
