Hi, I have a linux server setup with XBIS RM/COBOL and XML Extensions. I also have a Windows server setup with the same. I have a website on the linux using apache and works fine with the cobol and XBIS, it is old though. On the Windows Server the new website exists. So I made a virtual directory with the BISmkdir.exe to create a place on the new IIS website that accesses the old linux directories needed. This works since I can browse the folder scheme. But when I click on an srf file I get 30[34] errors in my trace file. Then I figured let me try the Samples that come with the Xcentricity BIS. They work when BISmkdir.exe uses the local folder so C:\\inetpub\\wwwroot\\XBIS12. I copied the folders over to the linux machine and some of the Samples are returning errors. I'm guessing it is accessing data issues. I've also attached an image of the trace received when trying to view Sample2. Has anybody tried this before? Should I try InfoExpress? We want to keep all of our ISAM data files
Is there any difference between these tho statements? CALL "CBL_CHANGE_DIR" using "\\CONT" returning ID-STAT CALL "CBL_CHANGE_DIR" using "\\CONT\\ " returning ID-STAT In the second case the name of the directory (in the root) is followed by \\ but I learned, that both statements should do the same. I observed that executing the first statement only once in the program, it works, but the second time no more, returning a status of 9 x&rdqu
i have searched for this to be covered but did not see anything covering this specific error/issue so I decided to post a new question on it. We store printer pcl codes in a file then reference those and send each to the printer directly but when we do this even though we code for no advancing it is moving us down a line for each code. This was not really noticed until we moved from Unix to Winodws servers and had to add PCL code to do tray selection. While the tray selection works fine, if we are doing things like check or form printing the first page is starting in a different spot on the page than the additional pages. We are using direct prining: -Q HP 4000;DIRECT=ON To swap trays in this case we send 027 038 108 053 072 (ESC & I 5 H) In the program we simply use a write after moving that line to the print area: move wscap-item(37) to printer-record write printer-record after zero ...this works perfectly except we are hoping
Hello, just wanted to divert your attention to some advice on coding guidelines for Micro Focus COBOL, by Micro Focus COBOL developers. You can find the article here. Hope you find it useful. Regards, Scot

Release: Net Express 5.1 .NET & Visual Studio 2012 While compiling the source from NE5.1 in Visual COBOL 2.2.1, we are receiving a warning for comp-5 redefinition. The vaiables are defined as follows: 01 WS-MENU-ID PIC S9(4) COMP-5. 01 WS-FIELD-KEY REDEFINES WS-MENU-ID PIC S9(4) COMP-5. 01 WS-BUTTON-ID REDEFINES WS-MENU-ID &nb
We are converting over to a new server and want to duplicate what we have with the existing one. We use RM/COBOL with the I-shell, cmix, and Easyspooler Spooler software from Roc Software Inc. All the software has been installed and were trying to access the Cobol programs thru the I-shell system but it will not connect or gives us no errors. Also tried to bypass the menu systems and manually try to access the files and ex the binary cobol program, I get an error "94" on the firsts indexed data file. if I try to sort an indexed sequential file, I get a 0402-050 syntax error. What am I missing????
Hi, We are experiencing a problem due to a missing shared object in MF COBOL Server 2.2 for UNIX update 2. Some background: We are compiling our programs on Linux using MF Visual COBOL for UNIX. The programs are compiled with the TESTCOVER directive. The programs are then deployed to another machine that has MF COBOL Server 2.2 for UNIX update 2 installed. Our problem is this: the programs run correctly on the machine where they are compiled, where MF Visual COBOL for UNIX is installed. However the programs do not run on the deployment machine, where MF COBOL Server 2.2 for UNIX update 2 is installed. The programs fail saying that cobtcov64.so cannot be found. We think that this is the library that implements the test coverage functionality. Why is cobtcov64.so not installed? Is this an install time option for MF COBOL Server 2.2 for UNIX update 2? Our current work around is to compile without TESTCOVER, but we would like to go back to using TESTCOVER in due course. Thanks, Leigh.
Hi , i am working over a project to migrate an existing mf cobol dll to visual cobol dll. The existing dll consist of 7 cobol programs(Native Managed). In Micro Focus the native DLL is created using CBLINK utility in a Batch file. The Existing CBLLINK batch file Compiles all the 7 programs and then to Link it is using an LINK file. In this file there is a list of object codes names need to be linked , So apart from these 7 program's Object file it also add's the Object code of 8 system object files (ADIS, ADISINIT, ADISKEY, ADISDYNA, MFFH, BSIO, EXTFHSUB, MFINI) provided by Microfocus. (They are present in Bin folder of Net Express 5.1) Now we have migrated those 7 programs is VIsual COBOL and we are trying to create the NAtive DLL using CBLINK utility, we are not providing those 8 System object files moreover we dont have those files present in the VIsual COBOL Bin folder. So DO we need those files in Visual COBOL ? Let us know what we can do to create NAtive DLL
Hi Chris, We are migrating the components from Micro Focus COBOL to Visual COBOL. In some of the Micro Focus modules there is a Call statement "CALL Utils.LBR". This Utils.LBR file is present in the MicroFocus Net Express 5.1' s Bin Folder. We think it is a Microfocus provided Library. We are not sure of the Utils.LBR file, What is the purpose of it. Now when we migrate those modules to Visual COBOL and try to execute them , At the Call Statement we are getting an Run-TIme Error, As it is not available in Visual COBOL's Bin folder, Instead there an an Utils.DLL present in the Visual COBOL's Bin folder. When we comment the Utils.LBR call statement in the code , The Code is working fine and fetching the Data from Files and Passing it to C#.NET. So the confusion is do we need the Utils.dll or Utils.Lbr file in Visual COBOL? And if we need it then how to consume the utils.dll in Visual COBOL. (Through setting a PP pointer to Utils.Dll in the code and use it or anythin
Hi, Just a simple query. What is the error 2361 coming from CBL_COPY_FILE routine?#CBL_COPY_FILEerror#CBL_routine
Hi We have an ABC.EXE component build in Net Express 5.1. It contains 10 programs. Out of them 9 programs are Native Procedural program. They are reading files and updating the files. One program(NETCall) build with OOCTRL( p) compiler directive and it is calling an .NET 4.5 DLL, To make database entry. We are trying to migrate the whole component in to VIsual COBOL by creating an Native - Console Project. While building the solution ,we are getting errors in NETCAL program at various places like creating an object of .NET class and calling the .NET method. We are not able to resolve this error. Please let us know how we can solve this problem. Thanks Charan
Hi We have a set of 2 programs , Both the programs have Multiple Entry Points. We are trying to Migrate them to Visual COBOL and club them in to DLL. So that they can be consumed by .NET. While doing so we are following an approach of creating a wrapper class as mentioned below:- 1. We have created an Native Link Library project and added all 7 programs and compiled them. Compilation was successful and it created an Native Dll. 2. Now we have created a Managed Class library project and added a Wrapper Class program. Where we are making calls to Entry Point of both the programs. 3. Also created an Client Managed Program in one more project of the solution. To Create an instance of class and invoke the methods of the class. The Startup project is Client Managed Program project. While Executing it we are getting error 173 - Program not found at the Line where we are making call to Entry Point of Native Program. Following option we have tried to resolve this: 1. Setting an
I have a personal version, here is detail of it; Micro Focus Visual COBOL 2.2 Version 2.2.00151. I have Windows 8.1 and I had to refresh the OS and it removed all installed programs. Is there anyway I can get it back?

Hi, I need to access shared memory from COBOL. The COBOL will be native. As the code will be developed on Windows and deployed to Linux I need the API to be the same on both platforms. I think that I will have to do this: working-storage section. 01 w-data-pointer usage pointer. linkage section. 01 l-data pic x(...). procedure division. call "MAP_MEMORY" using w-pointer. set address of l-data to w-pointer. The MAP_MEMORY routine is something I have to develop. My question is this. Does anyone have something like MAP_MEMORY that they would be prepared to share? Does Micro Focus have any samples or demos of this sort of thing? Thanks, Leigh.#COBOL
I would like to send a message to everyone logged on on the system and let them know the system will be going down in 5 minutes. If they do not log off I would like to force the log off systematically. I believe I can use MSG.EXE to send a message to all on the network. Is there a process that would log off a user and close the vision files appropriately? Thanks, David
Hi, I have a need to use some object oriented facilities. For various reasons I cannot use .NET or JVM. I was looking into ISO2002 Object COBOL. First, is ISO2002 Object COBOL recommended? Is it deprecated? There is only limited documumentation delivered with VC. Second, are there any samples available? Third, I have a have a simple (very simple) set of code that compiles but fails when run. The code is: repository. class CharacterArray. ... 01 w-string object. ... invoke CharacterArray "new" returning w-string. The error is "Called program file not found in drive/directory: CHARACTERARRAY" on the invoke. Any insights on this? Many thanks, Leigh.
