Problem: When obtaining the AcuShare report the meanings of the various items is not clear. Here's an example of such a report: Server Statistics: ================== server PID: 19134 IPC key: 0x01010101 shmid: 40370176 listening port: 44659 start date: Tue Apr 19 03:04:34 2014 clients: 2 client deaths: 0 message type sent received -------------- ---------- ---------- HANDSHAKE 8 8 ACK 2 0 INFO &nbs
Problem: By default, the COBOL Text Window comes with the system menu that allows to minimize, restore down, and close the application window. Clicking on these buttons does not unfortunately trigger an event for the application to act upon, so it abruptly terminates the COBOL application without giving any chance to stop graciously. This often results to data file corruptions and other unexpected results. The proposed solution in the past (see CloseButton.zip at the Examples and Utilities page) was to remove the system menu by using a Windows API functions GetWindowLong and SetWindowLong, and this does avoid the users to click on the Close button. What if you simply want to disable the Close button and keep the minimize and restore down buttons enabled? Resolution: There are actually other Windows API functions that can be used to disable the Close button from the system menu, and the following codes show how to use GetSystemMenu and EnableMenuItem:
Problem: A DB2 application runs fine on a machine that has Net Express 5.1 and DB2 client installed, but it fails with the following error when it is executed on a machine that has Server 5.1 and DB2 client installed: Load error : file 'sqlgstrt' error code: 173, pc=0, call=1, seg=0 173 Called program file not found in drive/directory Resolution: This problem usually occurs when the DB2 runtime files are not found in the PATH. However, the Server 5.1's installation inserts quotes around the location of the COBOL runtime files (i.e. "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Micro Focus\\Server 5.1\\Bin") causing a problem with the search through PATH and/or COBDIR. The purpose behind the quoted path was for backward compatibility with older versions of Windows. Until an Update (formerly known as WrapPack) is released to remove these quotes, the workaround is to update PATH and COBDIR manually in the Micro Focus registry entries by following the steps below: Open t
High Everbody, How can I trap the Windows Shutdown with NE5.1?
We use the browser component in lots of places in our system but there are times that certain websites throw errors. Below is a sample of an error that is thrown up to the user. Does anyone have any clue on how we can stop errors like this from being thrown up to our users?
With Dialog System I have the possibility to continue the program if the operator used the event WINDOW-CLOSED in order to execute some closing procedures before the program stops. What can I do when I use a Text Window (Character based) to do the same? If the operator clicks on the X the program stops immediately what I do not want. And when I remove the Sys-Menu with the WINAPI WS-SYSMENU the operator has not the possibility to change the window, minimize it, etc., I am looking for a simple possibility just to activate a flag if he uses X and with IF WINDOWCLOSED GO TO CLOSING-PROCEDURE. Continue my program. Thanks for any help Rolf #WINDOWCLOSED

Problem: Starting with ACUCOBOL-GT Version 9.2.3, a new Documentation Set is deployed. This may be read online using the following link: http://documentation.microfocus.com/help/index.jsp The news is that now it may also be consulted off-line locally, using the new help file "extend_923.chm".This is available directly in the 9.2.3 installation directory.i.e.: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Micro Focus\\Acucbl923\\Docs\\extend_923.chm A shortcut to this file may be useful in order to easily open the Documentation Set from the desktop. Problem is that in some cases, on certain Windows operating sytems, this help file may open but be displayed as empty. Resolution: If this HTML Help (.chm) file does not open correctly, use one of the following methods: Method 1 Double-click the .chm file.If an "Open File - Security Warning" dialog box appears, click to clear the "Always ask before opening this file" check box.Click Open. Method 2 Right-click the .chm file and then click Properties.Click Unblock
Hi, I have the following code that encrypts and then i can un-encrypt this file, which works file with text files i.e. readable characters. Problem: Working on a Microsoft SQL Server database using Acu4GL or AcuSQL, the runtime may encounter an error like this: "Connection is busy with results for another hstmt" Resolution: In AcuSQL, when executing a SELECT using dynamic SQL (i.e. with EXEC SQL PREPARE), the interface didn't know to treat the SQL like a cursor and so other statements on the same connection would fail with the mentioned error. The same error may occur using Acu4GL for MSSQL. This issue is now fixed starting with release 9.1.2.1 of extend software. The fix is developed in ECN-SQL138. Problem: ACUCOBOL-GT runtime can connect a COBOL application to a MySQL database using the AcuSQL pre-compiler/runtime via ODBC libraries and a local Data Source (DSN). Starting from release 9.2 the following statement returns the SQL error: SQLCODE=-1 EXEC SQL CONNECT TO :DataSourceName as C1 USER :UserName USING :Password END-EXEC. Resolution: This is a problem identified within AcuSQL. Newer versions of the ODBC Driver manager will cause AcuSQL to receive an error when attempting to execute a SQLAllocHandle prior to connecting to an ODBC driver on windows. This issue is now fixed with ECN-SQL147. The new ECN will be deployed in upcoming release 9.2.4, available starting next November, 20th, 2014. SI: 2790903#9.2.4#AcuSQL#MySQL
Hi all, i have a PIC S9(2) variable holding positive and negative values. I would like to display the values in a grid cell, with the plus or minus symbol: If value = 3 then display 3, if value = -3 then display -3, if value = 0 then display nothing. Is there a PIC supporting this? Apologies if my question is trivial. Th.P.
Hi all, I have a program running through AcuConnect. There are AcuThin clients running from PCs with different regional settings. Regarding reporting, how can automatically adjust the displayed Date control with the appropriate format? (dd/mm/yyyy for Europe clients, mm/dd/yyyy for America clients). Bonus question: when running "ACCEPT my-var FROM DATE" from AcuThin client, my-var has the clent's date or the server's date? Is there a way to have a UTC/GMT date/time information through a function? Thank you Th.
I'm converting this C# statement to COBOL: if (view.FocusedColumn.FieldName == "CityCode" && view.ActiveEditor is DevExpress.XtraEditors.LookUpEdit) For the COBOL statement, I'm using: if view::FocusedColumn::FieldName = "CityCode" and view::ActiveFilter = type Devexpress.XtraEditors.LookupEdit I get an error on "view::ActiveFilter = type Devexpress.XtraEditors.LookupEdit". LookuEdit is a class. How do I check for the ActiveFilter's type ?#VisualCOBOLautoscalemodescreenresolution
Hi All, Just checking if any one from MF has read my previous post concerning this matter? If so : is it possible / not possible? Would really appreciate an answer. Thanks Neil.

Problem Some applications require a 64-bit Windows ODBC driver; is there a 64-bit Relativity driver and if so, how can it be installed and used? Resolution Obtaining the Relativity Data Client for 64-bit Windows The Relativity Data Client for Windows installation media(rmrelativity1214_dclient_win.exe) can be obtained in three ways: 1. From the SupportLine Product Updates Page 2. From the link provided in an Electronic Product Delivery email 3. From the Relativity CD media, in the the "DClient\\046" directory Installing the Relativity Data Client for 64-bit Windows 1. Execute the Relativity Data Client for Windows installation package, "rmrelativity1214_dclient_win.exe" 2. Click the "Browse CD" button on the RM-Install dialog 3. Browse to "DClient\\046" 4. Execute the Relativity Data Client for 64-bit Windows installer, "DClient64.msi" Using the Relativity Data Client for 64-bit Windows Once the driver has been installed, you will need to use the 64-bit ODBC C
Problem Using RM/COBOL, is it possible to create, or read, sequential and relative files that are greater than 1 Gb? Resolution The default file size limit for sequential and relative files is 1Gb. By using runtime configuration options this limit can increased to a maximum of 128Gb. By setting the runtime configuration option LARGE-FILE-LOCK-LIMIT=x the index file limit can be increased. Where x = the size in Gb of the new file size limit, e.g. 128 for 128Gb. To make use of the new limit, the USE-LARGE-FILE-LOCK-LIMIT=YES, for the relevant file type must also be set. Runtime configuration options can either be placed in the default configuration file, runcobol.cfg (this is located in the RM/COBOL installation directory) or a configuration file that is passed to the runtime system as an application starts. Below are examples of values that the configuration options can be set to for the different file types. Examples: To increase the file limit for sequential files to 128Gb add th

Has anyone had their MF Cobol code just stop working properly? I have a series of programs, calling Oracle 8i stored procedures and they do not return data, when I am in the NE 5 IDE. I am also getting a file error status =107 if I run the EXE outside of the IDE. It dosn't seem to be just stored procedures, I have some in-line SQL that doesn't seem to want to return values, even though I can run the SQL in SQLPlus and get values. Thank you !#storedprocedure#EXECSQLEXECUTE#COBOLORACLEEXECSQLCOMPILE#Oracle#Oracle8i#COBOLnetexpressCOBCONFIG
Hello, I'm looking for a good data modeling software that can either connect to an ODBC source and read in the DB or will look directly at vision files to allow for creation of a data diagram. Anyone have any experience with these types of products, or recommendations?
Problem AcuXDBC ignores the CR LF with line sequential files. Regardless of how the sequential file is defined in the SELECT and FD, it seems that AcuXDBC is ignoring the CR LF line terminator and is returning the maximum record size number of bytes. Solution AcuXDBC supports sequential files that have a fixed record length; variable record length sequential files may not be used with AcuXDBC. Such files must be converted to fixed length binary sequential to be able to use them with AcuXDBC.
Dear Sirs, We are installing Visual Cobol Server in Windows 7 and we get the error enclosed. Many Thanks, PJM
Someone who can know why when creating an XML file with AcuXML based on a FD, the output XML file comes always malformed, basically does not closed some tags at the end of the file. The file structure consists of 6 normal fields and one last field with 50 occurs.
