Dear Friends, Can I Import an XML file, for VSAM files using NetExpress 3.1 is possible?
Dear Friends, How do I set the print density to 10 lines per inch, for example, a dot matrix printer (Epson DFX8000)? I'm using CBL_PRINTER_DEFAULT_PROPERTIES and CBL_PRINT_FILE to print my report. graciously Rogerio Barbosa
Introduction In the Visual COBOL 2.2 - JSP Web Services Tutorial [2] we created a JSP Web Service Application using JVM COBOL and Java in Visual COBOL for Eclipse. If you want to build the application outside of Eclipse as part of a larger automated build infrastructure, then this article shows how to use ant to build the complete application ready to be deployed. One of the advantages of using ant is the XML file used to control the build process can be the same for Windows and UNIX. The COBOL projects created by Eclipse use ant under the covers and by re-using this, you get the build of your COBOL code for free with no need to maintain a separate set of batch, shell or make files. Ant also contains tasks which make building the rest of the application straight forward, compiling the Java source code and creating the Web application ARchive file or WAR for short. This article provides a template build.xml which can be adapted for similar shaped Web Service Ap
Problem Why does rebuild pad with HEX0 as default using this command rebuild ./datei.vari,./datei.fix_blank -o:lseq,rel -r:v1-100,f16p –i Resolution See - Using the manual. The –o:lseq, rel the output is relative, so the default pad character is hex 0. See - Using rebuild. Here is an example of using the rebuild option which controls the pad character. See - Using COBOL. Here is an example of using COBOL, which can handle exceptions like long records Using the manual. The –o:lseq, rel the output is relative, so the default pad character is hex 0. See this reference document for rebuild Using rebuild. Here is an example of using the rebuild option which controls the pad character. This handles large records by creating new records with the extra data. However, if the infile has records greater than your output file, this might not be what you require. This type of record processing should be done using a COBOL program see using COBOL. Using a file called infile.dat which has 1
I have been a long time NetExpress user and have just moved over to Visual Personal COBOL. It installed just fine, but when I opened Visual Studio 2012 in Windows 8, I got the following error. Does anyone know what I should do about it? Is there a way to disable the Enterprise Server as I do not need that installed? I need to have this resolved ASAP as I need to learn the new platform, test my existing .cbl programs and put out step-by-step documentation so I can get my students up and running. Monday starts the 4th week of the semester and we were just told today that our NetExpress licenses that are expiring are no longer available for our students and that we all have to move to Visual COBOL.

Problem: When multiple users attempt to access a file, they get the following error message: File error 213 on ‘filename’ file Too many locks Solution: Increasing the value of NFLOCKS resolved the error.
Problem: Attempting to access the Server Express Development License System results in the error: Cannot find where LMF license directory is located Solution: The Micro Focus Product information listing in the user’s mfpoll showed that the Server Express product was not installed on the machine in question. Rather, Server for COBOL was installed. Installing Server Express (along with the license management system) resolved this problem.
Would anyone have a word.def file for Word 2013 that they could provide? I have one client using it but we do not have this version so I cannot generate.

We have upgraded to Visual Cobol 2.2. In Visual Cobol 2.1 I was able to extract a .MSI file from the Cobol Server 2.1 .exe. In the download area for Cobol Server I see that a .MSM file is available, but I'm not sure how to use that since our Installshield project is not a .MSI project. I've read the documentation that I can find but I didn't see anything about how to get a .MSI file. There is an example of using the Cobol Server .EXE to install it, but the sixe of the file is much larger that the .MSI file we used in VC 2.1. The size of the package we have to distribute is a concern. Is there still a way to get a .MSI file that we can include in our installshield project?
Is it possible to have inheritance with data between Cobol.Net classes the same way that classes in OOCobol do? If this isn't possible is there any workaround?
I have a problem with a diacritical mark, for example ' ë ' ' ö '. I have to make a file with fix length records with diacritical marks. I can make a 2 bytes diacritical mark and than it is possible to make a fixed length record. Now the user wants to have a character based file in fixed length. Is it possible to make that kind of file in UTF-8. #netexpress#COBOLserver
Does anybody know if there is som bug in the CBL_PRINTER_DEFAULT_PROPERIES NetExpress 3.11. Look at the portion of the code: length of move-Default Properties to pr-len 256 moves to pre-papersize add p-paper-size to Default-Properties-Flags

Hello friends, While updating a few programs to use OPEN EXCLUSIVE, i've seen that sometimes (not always) the File Status 32 will pop up and the program will not execute. Now i've elected to ignore 32, and the program runned without a flaw. This is what i've come accross about FS 32: "Too many Indexed files opened. This can also happen when a sequential file is open for input and an attempt is made to open the same file for output.(Run Time System (RTS) message by Micro Focus)." 1 - Should i really ignore FS 32? 2 - Is a simple CLOSE statement enough for a file with OPEN EXCLUSIVE? If not, it would make sense since the same files were opened prior in another program as input, and in this one in output. How should i proceed to close them?#NetExpress5.0#COBOL
I'm calling managed code from native. The managed code displays a "Please wait" dialog using the ShowDialog method and then does some processing. When the processing is complete, I do the Close method on the form and return to my native code. I'm starting a thread to do the processing then showing the "Please wait" form and am using a Timer component to determine when processing is done so I can close it and exit back to my native code which uses Dialog System for the UI. After closing the form, the text on the underlying native Dialog window is obliterated. The text returns if I refresh the window but I can't do this because I'm calling the managed code from some other program. This is leaving a blank rectangle on my Dialog System screen, which is the same size as the Windows form. Is there a way to prevent this from happening ?#VisualCOBOLautoscalemodescreenresolution
I want to convert my program that currently uses EXTFH to FHREDIR and make use of the Fileshare transactions. The doc says that to start a transaction: A transaction starts when your program performs the first update operation (WRITE, REWRITE or DELETE) on a file which has the WITH ROLLBACK clause defined in its SELECT statement after: The file is opened A COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement is executed I am trying to figure out how to set the FCD to have the equivalent of that WITH ROLLBACK in a select. I've looked through the various FCD settings and don't see it so far. Please help if you can.#NetExpress5.0#fhredir
We are an academic institution utilizing Visual COBOL for a class... Description: While testing product for academic use installed license on Windows 7 and now cannot revoke the license from license manager. Ger a "Revoke failed" Also received the following pop-up: "Unable to revoke all your licenses. Revoke failed for SolarManagedChecker.\\nPlease contact Micro Focus SupportLine \\n: Error[124]: Revocation not supported for trial licenses. Please contact Micro Focus Support Line If we could get some help getting this license properly revoked so we can set it up on our production server I would appreciate it? Thanks, -Jeff
I don't know why it has to be so complicated to call a dll from acucobol :-( Anyway I now have to make a call to a dll function that will populate an array of items defined as follows. Function Call:Input (int64)Output (Pointer to structure1) Structure1 Items OutItem(10) ItemsCount Uint8 outItemTotal DoubleString1 Char(36) Null terminated string, with a buffer maximum length of 'n 1'String2 Char(10) Null terminated string, with a buffer maximum length of 'n 1' Here is how I defined it and make the call but of course it does not work, the dll throws a memory access violation writing to address 00000000. I'm assuming the problem is that a cobol OCCURS does not translate well to the dll's ARRAY. Any direction would be helpful... 77 WS-RETVAL PIC S9(9) COMP-5. 77 WS-NUM PIC 9(18) COMP-5. 01&

Problem: The installation process fails to complete when attempting to install Visual Cobol 2.2 for Visual Studio 2012 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine. Resolution: The installation process fails because the VC 9.0 CRT is missing from the machine, and upgrading to Visual Cobol 2.2 Update 1 will rectify this issue. Alternatively, as a workaround, installing the "Microsoft Visual C 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package" from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 will resolve the issue.
I have somehow gotten my NetExpress COBOL programs to stop, as if there were a breakpoint set in them, at the beginning of every program called. I do not want this to happen, but I can't find doc on what caused it and how to change it back so that animation only stops at breakpoints that have been set. Thanks.#animation
