This works great for companies that only need the one language but for companies that need to be able to input and work with multiple languages, this does not work. It seems to be an issue in that the Acucobol Runtime is a non-unicode program and so can only support one language at a time. Microsoft has a program called AppLocale that apparently uses their program compatability stuff in XP and 2003 to change the code page of a specific running application. This is half of the solution. It would allow our program to be run in several different languages on the same system, but someone with Japanese as their language would see text in Korean as unreadable. We also looked at the MUI stuff avail
[Migrated content. So I have it open on my desktop, then I e.g. have to check something on the Acucorp website, and when I want to return, I find out that the application is not there anymore. I seems to me there is a timeout problem. I'm checking the two TC-variables TC_CHECK_ALIVE_INTERVAL and TC_SERVER_TIMEOUT for this.2) We have noticed that when lots of screen information has to be passed to the client, the system suddenly freezed in the middle of the screen update. It looks like a kind of overrun.I miss information about these two subjects in the manuals, so I hope there is someone around who has more experience with AcuConnect and can tell more about these issues.Ren

When my application is left idle for a time, e.g. accept screen, the ADSL line closes down disconnecting the application from the server. I am told that Acuthin does not keep constant communication with the Acurcl and as we are not using VPN, it will disconnect, when the ADSL line goes to sleep!.Has anyone got a neat solution?Ideally I would like a neat way to program my application to constantly keep in touch with the server, even while the app is waiting for the user, who has gone to lunch, to complete screen input. Thanks

Is there a shared object version of the Vision API for Linux?

Move "This is a test string" To WS-VARIABLESyntax in the future (i hope) 01 WS-VARIABLE Pic X(50). 01 WS-LANG-CODE Pic X(3) Value "ENG".* 1234 is the text id in the vision file of text * string ""This is a test string" Move (Call "GETTEXTSTRPROG" Using WS-LANG-CODE , 1234) To WS-VARIABLEThis is how i hope it could work. The reason why i would like it like this i because I have over 3000 programs to do this in, and if i could program it like shown above, I could just write a conversion program for the source code and replace all strings with a number, and if i change the

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 23 March 2005]We need to encrypt data within a record. Our environment is AcuCobol 5.2.1 on an AIX box.I believe we need an external utility / copybook that can be called to encrypt prior to writing and decrypt after read, depending upon a users security privleges. An unprivileged user would see garbled data, a person with the need to know the data would see the text. I am comfortable that we can keep the encryption key secure using the underlying OS security, but am unaware of a tool to perform the encryption/decryption.Has anyone any experience with this?

I played with it and everything seems to work fine, but who knows?Step #1: Open acubench as you normally wouldStep #2: right click on acubench executable (Acubench60.exe) and click Run as...Step #3: select 'the following user' and choose a user who is anyobdy but yourself. Of course, you must have the password for that user and that user must have permissions to operate normally on your machine (especially local login).Thats it! Acubench will most likely pop up with the default .ini settings. Your .ini settings are in your 'documents and settings' folder, so look for them to make acubench work the way you want.Merlin

Thread originally posted on 06 October 2003]Hello,I use acurcl / thinclient ( UNIX Server , Windows client) and in order to configure my access, I have to use the acurcl's interface. If I had few, ok , I could use it, but when you have more than 20 users ( in fact 70 for me with more than one access authorization) it become impossible. So I asked for, to Acucorp FRANCE, the acuaccess file description to write a cobol program interface ( not the crypting key, only the FD and SL).The answer of San diego is NO, nothing more !! so i am wondering... If acucorp do not want to give me theses elements may be it's because they are working on an interface smart and easy-to-use ? So Ok but quickly... because for our customers ...this configuration's interface is obligatory (prohibitive)...May be some others users have not still encountered the disadvantage... they could think about that.

I've recently worked with Progress which has pretty powerful pre-processors built into the comiler. I've read in Acucobol's doc that we can write our own pre-processors. Are there any pre-processors available which I can use/buy without having to write them myself? I miss Progress's pre-processor variables & "ifdef"s.Thanks,Bill

[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 17 February 2003]Hello,I would like to combine all my business logic for a module into a single program. There are two ways to do that:1. a 'what to do' code with each call.2. entry points.Either will do, but I perfer entry points. The big advantage with them is that you can tailor paramater passing to each type of call.In AcuCobol, you get to call entry points of a program if that program is loaded in memory. This is my problem. How do you specify in the linkage section which entry point gets which parameters? I would the default entry point to have 0 parameters so I can call the program and load it up, allowing access to the alternate entry points. When I try to do this I get linkage runtime errors. My code looks like LINKAGE SECTION. 01 P1 unsigned-int. 01 P2 unsigned-int. 01 P2 unsigned-int. PROCEDURE DIVISION. | main. *default initializatio
[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 17 April 2003]we have one site that is having weird problems with printing in terminal services, I am assuming it's hardware related but thought it wouldn't hurt to post and see if anyone has seen this.we have a simple printing routine Open extend Printer-name write printer-rec close printer-nameyou get the idea.we are using the windows spooler -P SPOOLERThe workstation is accessing the software via terminal services, and the printer is shared on the network and availible in the terminal services session.the problem is that a few times each day the program bombs with an error 30 on the printer. when it attempts to print to the printer. So we have added the c$rerr to the declaritives to try to get a sence of what is going on, but we can't duplicate the problem.has anyone had something weird like this happen.

We have WAN issues of 30 min to load a sreen at the client end or no screen loaded though server end indicates an active session. Believe telco has prioritised traffic such as ftp on the ADSL link at the expense of others. Additionally will acurcl timeout ?

And if so what level of restructuring/re-engineering was imposed on the the source base? Or did you have to resort to using imbeded SQL to do so?
