Problem:

• Product Name: Borland Enterprise Server Appserver Edition
• Product Version: 5.2.1
• Product Component: OptimizeIt
• Platform/OS Version: Windows

While using the BES console to configure a partition to be tested with Optimizeit with the JDK 1.4.1. The partition fails to start and the error log contains the following message:

Unable to find a suitable Java VM in C:\\BES_521\\jdk\\jdk1.4.1

Resolution:

The default configuration that is used by the console is to run the JDK in classic mode. Whilst the OptimizeIt documentation recommends the use of classic mode for those JDKs that support it, the JDK 1.4.1 does not support the classic mode.

To allow the partition to start:

1. Edit <install_dir>/var/servers//adm/properties/partitions/partition_optimizeit.config
2. Change the vmtype to jvmdefault or client.
