Problem:
During start-up of a VisiBroker based CORBA application the following message is printed to stdout, where xx is a number:
Borland Enterprise Server license warning[1017]: License is trial or termed, you have only xx days left.
Resolution:
The warning is printed only if all of the following conditions apply
1. The application is based on the VisiBroker for Java ORB. The VisiBroker for C ORB currently ( VisiBroker 8.5 SP1 ) does not print this error message.
2. The ORB requires a server license. That is the case if more than 10 callback objects are activated or the persistent lifespan policy is set for any created POA.
3. The license is either a TRIAL or TERM license. You can check the installed licenses by running "lmadm -i console" and selecting the option "[2] List all licenses". If you have both a valid license and a TRIAL or TERM license installed, this warning can also be printed.
When the above warning 1017 is printed, the following errors may occur later on during runtime:
Borland Enterprise Server license violation[1020]: Limited license term exceeded.
If the ORB has been running under a TRIAL license limited to 10 hours ( VisiBroker 8.0 and above ) or 72 hours ( VisiBroker 7.0 and below ) and has exceeded the time limit, the error 1020 will be printed and the ORB will shut-down automatically.
Borland Enterprise Server License violation[1021]: One or more of your trial/termed license(s) have expired.
After the TRIAL or TERM license has expired, the ORB can no longer be started and error 1021 will be printed. Please use license tool to remove the expired license and then install a valid license.
