Question/Problem Description
This article clarifies main differences between Artix 5.5 and Artix 5.6, and things to take into consideration when upgrading Artix 5.5 based applications to Artix 5.6.*
Resolution
Artix 5.5 included the following:- CXF-base Java JAX-WS runtime located in <artix_ 5.5>/java directory
- C and JAX-RPC Java runtimes located in the <artix_ 5.5>/cxx_java
The JAX-WS standard is the successor of the JAX-RPC standard.
JAX-RPC has been deprecated and removed from Artix 5.6.*.
The last version of Artix supporting Java JAX-RPC applications is therefore Artix 5.5 (please contact MicroFocus SupportLine for the latest available hotfix for Artix 5.5). There will be not further versions supporting JAX-RPC.
Currently, Artix 5.6.* is available in two completely separate versions:
- Artix 5.6.* C runtime, this is intended for C development only. Artix-based C applications developed with previous versions of Artix should be upgraded to the latest release of Artix 5.6.* C . The upgrade is straightforward with minimal effort.
- Artix 5.6.* Java runtime (JAX-WS runtime based on CXF), this is intended for Artix based Java development only. Java JAX-WS applications developed with previous versions of Artix should be upgraded to the latest release of Artix 5.6.* Java. The upgrade is straightforward with minimal effort.
Upgrading JAX-RPC Java based applications developed with previous versions of Artix to Artix 5.6.* Java JAX-WS is not trivial and involves code, configuration and deployment changes.
