Solution:

This  error is caused by a corrupted class file.

This error is seen when downloading the class file using some browsers, usually Netscape. On download the browser adds extra carriage returns to the class file which corrupts it. To get around the problem when using Netscape you will need to hold down the shift key when downloading.
