The getRemoteAddr() method returns a wrong IP address

Problem:

  • Product Name: Borland Enterprise Server AppServer
  • Product Version: 6.5
  • Product Component: Web Container
  • Platform/OS Version: All
  • JDK: JDK 1.4.2

The getRemoteAddr() method returns a wrong IP address. When the method getRemoteAddr() is called in a servlet, it is expected to return the client's IP address. However, the method returns the IP address of the client who had accessed that servlet previously. Hence, the client may return a different IP address each time it is called. This can be shown if the browser is refreshed a few times (with other browsers accessing the same servlet in between).
