VisiNotify fails to start with an unknown exception.

Clarifying Information

When the visinotify process starts up it will try to access the file directory or database table name for the persistance storage root.

Error Message

The debug log below shows an unknown exception which initiates the ORB shutdown:

    Src# v_vntfy Msg# unknown exception
    Src# orb Msg# ORB cleaning up (1, 0)
    Src# orb Msg# Calling complete cleanup.
    Src# orb Msg# Deactivating all POA Managers.

Cause

This issue is caused if the visinotify process tries to access the directory of the persistent storage root but does not have access or write permission to this directory. The default value for this directory is

./visinotify.dir

Resolution

Specify a well known directory (where the user starting the visinotify process has access and write permissions) by using the -Dvbroker.notify.dir=<dir> property. For further details on this property, please consult the VisiBroker documentation.
