Problem:

  • Product Name: Borland Enterprise Server (BES AppServer), VisiBroker
  • Product Version: 6.0 and later
  • Product Component: License Management
  • Platform/OS Version: All
When registering VisiBroker and AppServer via Web, an email with the activation file (regxxxx.txt) is received.  The email instruct to save the file to the home directory. A snippet of the email below shows:

Save the file to your home directory, and it will be loaded automatically the next time you start your Borland product.

Home directory location varies by platform:

   Windows 2000/2003/XP: C:\\Documents and Settings\\

   Windows Vista: C:\\Users\\

UNIX and Linux: /user/ or /home/

   MAC OS X: /Users/

However, after saving the file to the home directory, the license does not appear in the License Management Tool (lmadm).

Resolution:

The instruction in the email does not apply to versions starting from BES (AppServer) 6.0 and VisiBroker 6.0 onward.

The license activation file need to be saved to S_LIC_DEFAULT_DIR% or $BES_LIC_DEFAULT_DIR. It points to $VBROKERDIR/license directory by default  For example, if VisiBroker is installed in /opt/Borland/VisiBroker, then the regXXX.txt need to be stored in /opt/Borland/VisiBroker/license.
