I was trying to Open in Basic and Read. I got back "793C^0001" as the only reply

The problem text files were created using a program call pdftotext.exe ( a free download)
If I open the text file they created  using explorer, it opens in Notepad just fine.

I ended up copying the pdfs down to my Universe machine and I could open them there just fine. I wrote what I needed into a UV item.

Then I copied the text from the item and inserted it into a D3 item and got around it.

So I guess I need to close this request. It is not a D3 issue at all!

Thanks for answering and pointing me in the correct direction.

Hi Curt,

a couple of thoughts :

  1. the Q-pointer or D3 file indicates that it contains only binary items. Check attributes 1 & 14 (ref : Attribute Defining Items in the manual). There may be other attributes.
  2. the text item (file) starts with non text characters. Use an OS editor for Windows (eg Notepad++) or hex dump for Linux to view the raw file
  3. you are Super Q-pointing to the Windows/Linux file itself instead of the directory which contains it
  4. the file is altered when you import it to D3. Some import programs do this.

I hope these thought help.

Regards and best wishes,

Warwick
