Not sure when 10.4.1 will be available, but meanwhile, my original comment stands:
Get a verified file-save (in case of problems, you can install from scratch).
Shut down D3
Do a standard uninstall of D3 which leaves data and registry (Device Manager) entries in place
Run the 10.4.0.1 installer which will then successfully upgrade 10.4.0 in place
Activation should not be necessary, so just <exit> the activation applet
