Hello,
I have a huge problem with D3, hopefully somebody can help me.
Description:
I open D3: d3vme /debug
Everything seems ok until:
Unable to open "users" file

and after a while:
*** Remote File System Error ***
Open (fsi:dem, users,) Cannot Bind Remote Connection

ct users
'fsi:dm' is not a valid md name

ct md users

  users
001 Q
002 fsi:dm
003 users
004
005
006
007
008
009 I
010 18

I made my backup by copying the folder D3 in Windows.
I hope somebody can give me a hint to solve the problem. If more information is required just ask.
Thanks a lot

Sorry for the mistake.
Of course it is fsi,dm,users

With the help of Rocket I was able to recreate the dm account, but now the problem is to get back the data.
How to get back the data when I only have the folder D3Database (no file-sava available)?

Hi Andy

Are you familiar with the SEL-RESTORE verb?
If so you can "recreate" those lost files/records into the "re-created" DM account.
Tip from my past was to keep an account-save of [MYTRUSTEDDMACCOUNT] and just peel off the data I required when and if.

Must be honest, not familiar with the full functionality of the method you're using however, I would imagine that copy / past would apply?

Failing which simple Q pointer setup and copy(ing) the data off your backup?

1. Create all your data accounts, standard way: CREATE-ACCOUNT FSI:accountname bla bla bla ...
2. Shutdown D3
3. Remove all new created accounts from  D3Database folder
4.Copy your backup account folders in D3Database
5. Start D3
6. Let me know...

Hi Stefano

Yes, that'll work.

I (used to) just do the SEL-RESTORE from a backup. Essentially same as you've suggested.

Thanks

IMPORTANT: After you've restarted D3 after the drag, do a full save and fileload. That will straighten out the FSI file numbers. If you don't do that, there's a very small chance that you could do a DELETE-FILE and D3 will delete the wrong file based on the incorrect file#. Almost never happens, but could.

I have used this method a number of times, and it works really well. Just do a full File-Save then File-Load logged in "As-Administrator" afterwards to clean things up. Actually, if you don't have a massive amount of data (or perhaps particularly if you do!) it can make a difference to do the save/load twice in a row! I was alerted to that by Mike at T-Data some years ago. He didn't have a reason, but it solved a database integrity issue I had at the time.
