Hi everyone. Does anybody know the what the cost would be to upgrade to Universe from mvBase, if they have an active support contract for their mvBase installations?

Any insight would be helpful.

Best regards,

Richard

Rocket offer a upgrade path for mvBase to D3/jBase that has no cost.Ā  I wanted to know if the same applied if we were to change to Universe from mvBase.

Hi Richard,

Ā  If you are going to modernize your MV application, then you have to think of licensing slightly different. Traditional MV applications, whether green screen or GUI, are licensed by user, because every user that access the application needs its own terminal session on the server. But if you transform your application into an API based web application, then instead of User licenses you would need Connection Pooling (CP) licenses for the API Gateway, in this case, MVIS. Instead of being dedicated to a user, a CP attends requests from web applications and from APIs, so how many CP licenses would be needed it would depend more on the type of application and the amount of concurrent requests for APIs and the web applications. CP licenses cost more than regular User licenses, but they are "multiplexed" among the web and API requests, so it is by not means a one-to-oneĀ  relation with respect to your actual User licenses count.Ā

Ā  HTH,

Ā  Enrique
