Pin it or bin it: naming, emojis, and one-liners that make saved views irresistible

If your saved view name reads like a filing cabinet label, no one clicks it. Microcopy is your growth hack: name it like a button people want to press.

The formula (keep it simple)

  • Name pattern: [Emoji] [Job to be done] — [Scope or threshold] (Audience if needed)
  • One‑liner: “Why this view exists” in one sentence. Action + payoff.

Naming rules that earn clicks

  • Lead with the job, not the noun. Action beats category.
  • Keep it under ~30 characters. Truncated names don’t get love.
  • Use consistent emojis. Pick 6–8 and stick to them.
  • Scope it. Add “>30d,” “High,” or “This Week” so expectations are clear.
  • If it’s personal, say so. “(Me)” or “My Queue” prevents confusion.

Your emoji shortlist (use sparingly)

  • 🔎 find/triage
  • 🚩 risk/attention
  • ✅ done/clean
  • 🧹 cleanup/dedupe
  • 💤 stale/aging
  • 📥 imports
  • ⚙️ ops/system
  • 🧪 test/sandbox

Before/after names with one-liners

  1. Before: Potential Duplicates
After: 🧹 Needs Merge — High
Why: Highest confidence dupes first; clear 5 in 5 minutes.
  2. Before: Validation Errors
After: 🚩 Fix These First — New <14d
Why: Fresh exceptions you can fix fast to stop downstream rejects.
  3. Before: Records Updated Last 30 Days
After: 🔎 Updated Last 30d — Owner Is Me
Why: My active work; oldest first so nothing rots.
  4. Before: Regional Accounts — West
After: 🌎 West — Active Only
Why: Only the accounts we’re working right now, no archive dust.
  5. Before: Import QA
After: 📥 Post Import Spot Check — [Source]
Why: Sanity check yesterday’s import; catch mapping oops early.

Microcopy that moves people

  • “Use daily to triage new records; five minute pass.”
  • “Fix these first to keep reports clean.”
  • “Merge only when two fields agree; park the rest.”
  • “Clear by Friday; we’ll post the count.”
  • “Safe to share; no sensitive columns.”

Where to add the one-liner

  • In the view description/notes (so it shows on hover).
  • In the launch post right under the link.
  • As the first comment in the thread so it’s easy to find later.

Pin or bin: your 10 day test

  • Did someone use it in the last week? If not, unpin.
  • Does it save two minutes per use? If not, simplify or kill.
  • Is there an owner? If not, assign one or archive it.

Screenshots to include (if you can)

  • The rename flow: old name vs. new name, plus where to add the one‑liner.
  • A pinned views bar with 5 punchy names (show, don’t tell).
  • A click‑through heatmap after your rename (if you track it).

Your turn (quick)

  • Post one before/after rename and the one-liner you used.
  • Nominate one view to unpin this week. Why should it go?
  • Share your emoji set. If we align on 6–8, we’ll all move faster.
