Problem:

Can we use the DDISYMB (subschema) files on the mainframe as data view items on the PC with no trouble or do they all need to be regenerated?

Resolution:

The DDI generated on the mainframe should work in AMB. Once you have moved the DDI process to AMB, there may be code congruency differences in generated symbols or copylib members that need to be investigated before the final desktop implementation. Keep in mind that AMB is a new release, for example we are now supporting DB2 v8 and other bug fixes that may make the generated ddisymb or copylib slightly different. That said - you are doing 'this' today, 'this' is defined as using the MVS DDISYMB members and generating your code in AMB using the DGS this works find. That would not change when you go do the desktop. You can use the workgroup to point the DDISYMB for code generation to the mainframe PDS. I don't think you should switch to using the the AMB generated DDISYMB or copy them up to the mainframe until you run a comparison of the generated DDISYMB members just to make sure all changes are cosmetic.
