This article attempts to help you get more information to find out why, when starting the ESDEMO server, the Communications Server abends with a message.

Problem:

When starting the ESDEMO server, the Communications Server abends with a message in the console similar to:

"CASCD0169S ES Communications Server for ES ESDEMO abended by signal 00128 11:07:37"

Resolution:

The steps to gather more information are:
  • Look at the MFCS log as a starting point. Try the "CommsConsole Log" link on the server page of MFDS, if there is one. If there isn't, or it doesn't work, go to the [netx-install-dir]\\base\\workarea\\ESDEMO directory under the Net Express installation directory and browse log.html.
  • If there isn't a MFCS log in the Net Express installation directory, and the only file available is console.log with the messages that appeared in the console, the installation of the product may not be right. One possibility is that the Enterprise Server FixPack hasn't been installed but the Interface Mapping ToolKit FixPack has. This results in a module mismatch.

Run AutoUpdate from the Supportline Website to ensure that all the Net Express components are up to the latest level. If problems persist, run the following command in a Net Express Command Prompt window:

mfcs -n ESDEMO -l c:\\

That should either create a log file c:\\log.html or fail with a Windows OS popup message of some sort. Either way it might provide some additional clues.
