Problem:

You might have data files in MFE that are VB (max lrecl 2000 4) and need to convert them to windows txt format.

There is a simple way of doing this without having to transfer to the mainframe using MFA and then FTP to transfer to windows.  

Resolution:

Use the MFE data file convert utility (Tools>Data Tools>Convert)

Input file format/organisation: MF/Sequential (VB)

Codeset: EBCDIC

Output file format/organisation: MF/Line Sequential

Codeset:ANSI (tick convert character set check box)

To convert the file to a true PC file format the output file needs to be DSORG=LSEQ, ANSI (ie. Line Sequential). This will be a proper PC text file which can be opened with notepad.
