Problem:
We are having to copy or move an existing Mainframe Express (MFE) project to a new location. Can this be done easily?
Resolution:
Yes, to create a new project from an existing one use the IDE Project Wizard.
The IDE Project Wizard allows for creating a new project from an existing one and it will copy over all the files, if that option is selected. However, bear in mind that all definitions in a MFEv30. project are relative to the project file (.MVP) and those files outside of the project directory must still be mapped to their new locations or moved underneath the project. This means that network files, say on the H drive, should have the same mapping in the new location or the Workgroup folder can be updated to point to any desired location (via a select and then a right click).
If you need only to move a project to a new location, it is easiest to zip up the project directory and all its sub-directories, and then unzip them in the new location. The same is true of files referenced on a network location - they must be mapped the same or new definitions made.
