Problem
The message “Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and that you can write to it” appears sometimes when you uninstall Data Express Updates/Wrappacks. It seems the log file gets locked and that gives the error message. The uninstallation process is impossible and you have to uninstall Data Express and install it again from scratch.
Resolution
When the message appears “Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and that you can write to it”, then perform these steps:
1. Open the “Windows Task manager” menu.
2. Kill the Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) process:
- If the icons disappear but the Windows Task Manger menu remains on the screen, go to File/New Task (Run…) and run explorer.exe from the “Create New Task” menu.
- If a black screen appears restart the Windows system.
- Uninstall the Update/Wrappack.
