I am editing a program using EDPE in Visual Studio 2010 and have repeatedly experienced the entire application shutting down unexpectedly with no error messages.  In looking at the project directory I see a file called mfdebug.log with the following contents:

Update:  I made the change outside of EDPE and reopened the program.  I am able to make other changes in the program again without difficulty.  The change I was making that seems to have caused the problem was to change:

01  EFFECTIVE-DATE                 PIC  X(10).

to

01  EFFECTIVE-DATE.

    05  YYYY                       PIC  X(04).

    05  HYPHEN-1                   PIC  X(01).

    05  MM                         PIC  X(02).

    05  HYPHEN-2                   PIC  X(01).

    05  DD                         PIC  X(02).

The crash point was not consistent - that is once I made it all the way to HYPHEN-2 and another time I barely got past YYYY.

Sorry to keep blasting away at this one, but I may have figured out what triggered the problem.  The date field I was breaking down was used in an SQL WHERE clause - which did generate a warning message - but perhaps there's something in the EDPE code that can't handle this error...?

I've done extensive editing on this program without issue up to this point.  Right now I'm trying to break down a data item into more elementary pieces.  I have no idea if that is the trigger or not...

Julia,

Be glad to provide the source code.  I took a snapshot of it yesterday before I made more changes and just verified that I am still having the same issue this morning with the snapshot.  I'd prefer not to post the code publicly on the forum.  If you can send an e-mail address to me (at Chuck.Stone@Symetra.com) where I can forward the VS solution files I'll send them right off.

Chuck

I am editing a program using EDPE in Visual Studio 2010 and have repeatedly experienced the entire application shutting down unexpectedly with no error messages.  In looking at the project directory I see a file called mfdebug.log with the following contents:

Hi Chuck,

Thanks again for providing all the information. Our developers are working on the issue and will be in contact soon. Meanwhile, to avoid the crash you can use the directive XDB(NOVALIDATE). Please use this directive as a work around to avoid the crash for now.

Thank you and talk soon

Julia

Hi Julia,

I have browsed some of the MF articles about your comment, but I can't find a way to use the directive XDB(NOVLIDATE), would you give me more hints about it ?

David

Hi David,

If you go to your solution explorer \\ your application, on the SQL tab you will see that the SQL preprocessor is set to XDB and the directive is Validate. On the directive details, you will need to check the disable box to disable the Validate directive.

Let me know if you need any further information.

Thanks

Julia
