Problem:

The “open input” statement goes to the mainframe to find a dataset, but instead receives an error 124 - "Communication with Fileshare server failed during IO request." This process was working under the previous version, but is now failing following an upgrade.

Resolution:

The (SERVERS) file on the mainframe contains a section headed “MFA Data Connect Server,” which contains the details of the Data Connect configuration. After receiving this error message, if you check the (SERVERS) member, you will see that the Data Connect members have not been copied over. By copying these details over, you now enable the dataset to be accessed.
