The current trending period is monthly for all metrics, and for trending, it seems only the last metric within the period is considered.  But if one of the purposes of EV is to provide information to make better business decisions, the information has to be timely.

Depending on the metric, some will need to capture trending information on a daily/weekly/mothly/quarterly/yearly basis.  This will influence metrics management among other things.  Question is, when to capture this requirement.

The most flexible method may be to assocate the trending information with the chart.  When the "trending" checkbox is enabled in the wizard, maybe it's at that point the frequecy period (how often) is stipulated, along with the trending duration or period (how far back).

If you really want to get fancy, create a trending chart with built-in controls so the display can be modified on the fly - look at this month's numbers, then look at the numbers for this month last year.  Just thinking out loud.

And when creating a chart, once different trending periods are available.
