Problem:
How can a VSAM file be uploaded from PC to Mainframe using JCL?
Is it possible to use IDCAMS to 'REPRO' data from a VSAM file on the PC to a VSAM file on the mainframe.
Resolution:
Currently there is no way of creating a VSAM KSDS file drirectly on the mainframe from JCL run in MFE or by using MFA DRAG & DROP.
The following steps could be used to perform this operation.
1. Make sure the latest version of MFA (plus fix packs) is installed on the mainframe.
2. Make sure the latest version of MFE (plus fix packs) is installed on the PC.
3. Create a VSAM KSDS file on the mainframe, either by running a job directly on the mainframe or by using SUBMIT TO MAINFRAME from within MFE.
- this will create a new and empty VSAM KSDS on the mainframe.
4. Make sure ENABLE DATA CONNECT LOOK UP is set on in the PROJECT SETTINGS, in the CATALOG OPTIONS, on the CATALOG tab.
5. Make sure there is no entry in the MFE project catalog relating to the VSAM KSDS.
6. Make sure the VSAM KSDS file DD statement in the IDCAMS JCL, has DISP=OLD defined.
- this will overwrite any contents in file.
7. Run the IDCAMS JCL in MFE and the file should appear in the project catalog with a PC name starting with $$node\\......... and will populate the VSAM file on the mainframe
