How to silently configure the Micro Focus License Administration-> Options -> Advanced Configuration -> License Server

Problem:

A systems administrator wishes to automatically and silently install Enterprise Developer or Visual COBOL, and as a part of this, wishes to automatically modify the setting for the Micro Focus License Administration -> Options -> Advanced Configuration -> License Server.  However, there does not appear to be a way of modifying the configured location of the License Server except by interactively running the License Administration tool.

Resolution:

Here are some ways to automatically and silently modify the configured location of the License Server, as shown in Micro Focus License Administration -> Options -> Advanced Configuration -> License Server:

Edit the ces.ini file on Windows.  It is located in the folder "%ProgramData%\\Micro Focus", which usually means:

C:\\ProgramData\\Micro Focus\\ces.ini

Edit it and change the value of "lshost".  You could then copy the file to other machines on which you have installed Micro Focus License Administration.

You could also run:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\SafeNet Sentinel\\Sentinel RMS License Manager\\WinNT\\CesAdminTool.exe -term set lshost <server>

Or you could set a system environment variable LSFORCEHOST=<server>

All the above options other than interactively running the License Administration tool would require restarting the MF daemon service.

It is best to set up the license server beforehand, or there will be a delay while clients search for it.
