Micro Focus Enterprise Developer is a contemporary development suite that allows mainframe developers to maintain, develop and modernize mainframe applications environments regardless of whether these are to be deployed back on the mainframe or onto an alternative platform.

Enterprise Developer supports IBM COBOL, IBM CICS, IBM JCL, IBM DB2, IBM z/OS file formats and common batch utilities including SORT. This means that the core mainframe online and batch applications can be developed and maintained under Enterprise Developer. These applications can then be deployed back on the mainframe or migrated onto one of the Micro Focus Linux, UNIX or Windows based production platforms.

Enterprise Developer also contains all the development and testing tools you need to modernize the migrated applications. It releases the value of these business assets by exploiting existing interfaces and extending them to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) through .NET, Web services or J2EE.

Enterprise Developer Variants

Enterprise Developer comes in two product variants.

Enterprise Developer Personal Edition a single user, entry level version that allows developers to build COBOL projects and edit and do a syntax check of mainframe applications off the host. Enterprise Developer Personal Edition is a free offering and can be used on as many computers as needed, as long as officially activated.

Enterprise Developer Team Edition is a full function team enabled version which allows developers to edit, compile, debug, execute and unit test mainframe applications. It also provides the support needed to develop or extend mainframe COBOL applications to allow them to run as managed code within the JVM environment. These applications can then be deployed in the Micro Focus Enterprise Server JVM platform.Enterprise Developer Team Edition is a professional version and can be trialed for 30 days for free.
