This article explains why licenses disappear after installing them into Studio Enterprise Edition 6.0

Problem:

After adding the authorization code into the licensing tool with the Studio Enterprise Edition tool, connecting to the Micro Focus licensing tool and successfully obtaining a full license for the product, the license has disappeared. Why is this?

Resolution:

There are a couple of reasons why this problem may occur:

  1. If you authorize the product and the license is not immediately visible, it may mean that you have previously revoked the product and then used the old authorization code again instead of the new one generated at the end of the revoke process.
  2. This problem can also occur if the following files are modified or tampered with:
    • ces.ini
    • lservrc.stn
    • lservrc.net
    • *.log

These files are found in the following locations:

C:\\Program Data\\Micro Focus - on Vista/Windows Server 2008

C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\Micro Focus - on XP

Verification that this has actually happened can be achieved by obtaining trace information pertaining to the license(s) installed. Carry out the following steps and forward the resulting log file on to your local SupportLine representative for investigation:

Windows XP

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and in the left hand column select Application. In the View option select Filter and in the Event Source field select Micro Focus Licensing from the drop down, click on Apply then OK. In the Action option select Export List and save log file in .txt format to a convenient folder on the local hard drive.

Windows Vista

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and in the left hand column select Windows Logs > Applications. In the Action drop down menu select Filter Current Log and in the Event Source field select Micro Focus Licensing from the drop down, click on OK. In the Action option select Save Filtered Log File As and save log file in .txt format to a convenient folder on the local hard drive.

Note: It is advised that these files are left untouched so as to avoid any problems of this nature.
