Problem:

This article explains the structure of the products that are part of the Studio Enterprise Edition 6.0 ServicePack 2 release and the format of the licenses they use.

Note:
• Safenet refers to licensing using Sentinel RMS License Server from Safenet.
• LMF refers to the License Management Facility.

Please refer to the Development and Deployment Licensing sections in the product documentation for more.

Resolution:

1. Studio Enterprise Edition

Licensing of Studio Enterprise Edition is “per seat”.

You can order Studio Enterprise Edition for Windows or for both Windows and UNIX. You can choose COBOL (with support for CICS, JCL and IMS), PL/I or both, and licenses for IMTK and for HCO option that use Safenet licences are provided for free on Windows.

Product options include:

• Studio Enterprise Edition Windows Components – a VS2008-based product. Uses a Safenet key.
• Visual COBOL Enterprise Option – a VS2010-based product. Uses a Safenet key.
• Studio Enterprise Edition UNIX Components – this is only available if you order Studio Enterprise Edition for Windows and for UNIX. The order entitles you to two LMF keys for Studio Enterprise Edition for UNIX.
• RUMBA – has a different licensing structure and uses a separate licence key.

2. Server Enterprise Edition

Licensing of Server Enterprise Edition is per “cpu/core”. The main offering is licensed by LMF. Similar to Studio Enterprise Edition, you can order the following options – COBOL (with support for CICS, JCL and IMS), PL/I or both:

• COBOL (with support for CICS, JCL and IMS) - on Windows, an IMTK license is provides with the COBOL option. IMTK uses a Safenet key.
• PL/I - provides a PL/I licence that uses Safenet

You can order the following add-ons:

• HCO is available as a separate add-on that uses Safenet licensing
• DBC is available as a separate add-on that has a different licensing structure

3. Studio Enterprise Edition Test Server:

Studio Enterprise Edition Test Server is a cut-down version of Studio Enterprise Edition. There is no PL/I option and the product is available only on Windows.
Unlike Studio Enterprise Edition, licensing for Test Server is per “cpu/core” as in Server Enterprise Edition.

Product options include:

• Studio Enterprise Edition Windows Components – a VS2008 based product that uses a Safenet key.
• RUMBA – has a different licensing structure and uses a separate licence key

4. Studio Enterprise Edition for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)

The license for Studio Enterprise Edition for ISVs comprises a license for Studio Enterprise Edition for Windows and licenses for Studio Enterprise Edition for UNIX for all available UNIX and Linux platforms.

• On 64-bit AIX – to license Studio Enterprise Edition for UNIX, you need a “special” LMF key that must be generated separately. The key ends with “…AI ”.
• On all other UNIX and Linux platforms – licensing is with a LMF key ending with “…SS ”. Note that the OS information shows only one platform such as AIX.

5. reUZE Developer and reUZE Server

These products work on Windows only. Licensing is the same as for Studio Enterprise Edition and Server Enterprise Edition.

6. Migration Toolkit

The Migration Toolkit is a bundle that consists of the following products:

• Studio Enterprise Edition for Windows and for UNIX – licensing is the same as detailed for Studio Enterprise Edition above.
• Modernization Workbench – uses a Safenet key
• Mainframe Express Enterprise Edition (MFEEE) – uses the key for the “Migration Toolkit” which is included in the licensing email.
