Problem:

When using Mainframe Express, when accessing the SPOOL VIEW of the project, suddenly becomes empty.

Viewing the SYSTEM LOG definitely shows that JCL jobs have been run, but nothing is showing in the SPOOL VIEW...Why?

Resolution:

To create the SPOOL VIEW, Mainframe Express cross references the CATALOG.DAT with the MVSSPL01.DAT file.

Successful processing creates the entries shown in the Spool View.

In this instance, the MVSSPL01.DAT has become corrupt for whatever reason.

Workaround.

Make sure the MFE project is closed.

From a Mainframe Express Command Prompt, navigate to the directory containing the MVSSPL01.DAT file and use the following command...

REBUILD /f MVSSPL01.DAT

this will identify any corruption in the file.

To overcome the problem, the file needs to be corrected, by using the following command...

REBUILD MVSSPL01.DAT

As the file is IDXFORMAT(8), the command will correct the file into a temproary file and rename the file back to MVSSPL01.DAT, all under the covers.  

Now re-open the Mainframe Express project and open the SPOOL VIEW, to see the correct entries.
