Julia (and All):

A couple of days ago I uninstalled the Enterprise Developer Personal Edition for Visual Studio 2010 Version 2.0 software and installed the Version 2.1 software on my computer. I also decided to use the Bankdemo application programs and data files in the MFETDUSER folder that came with the Version 2.1 software - just in case some of the elements in the various subfolders of the MFETDUSER folder might have been updated for Version 2.1. The installation appeared to have been successful, but the problem came when I tried to test the software using the Bankdemo application.

When I tried to run the Bankdemo application using the ZBNKSTMT JCL job in Enterprise Server, the job Abended with a Cond Code = 0016 and an error message indicating that the OPEN had failed on the Customer detail file as shown below:

JCLCM0188I JOB01007 MFIDEMO JOB STARTED 23:09:05

 ZBNKEXT1 - Timer started 23:09:05

ZBNKEXT1 - Exec parm is "B0004" 23:09:05

ZBNKEXT1 - Selecting records for B0004 only 23:09:05

ZBNKEXT1 - EXTRACT file opened OK 23:09:06

ZBNKEXT1 - SOURCE1 (Customer details) file open failure... 23:09:06

ZBNKEXT1 - Program is abending... 23:09:06

.

.

ZBNKPRT1 - End Of Job 23:09:09

ZBNKPRT1 - Timer stopped 23:09:10

ZBNKPRT1 - Elaped run time: 1.51 seconds 23:09:10

JCLCM0182I JOB01007 MFIDEMO JOB ENDED - COND CODE 0016 23:09:10

When I substituted the previous version of the MFETDUSER folder containing the Bankdemo application that I had been using with the Version 2.0 of EDPE software - which seemed to contain more data files - 46 items - in its CATALOG/DATA subfolders than the version of the MFETDUSER  folder that came with the Version 2.1 EDPE software - only 22 items - then the submission of the ZBNKSTMT JCL job running the Bankdemo application executed successfully with Cond Code = 0.

Question 1:

Is there an updated version of the MFETDUSER folder containing the Bankdemo application for the Version 2.1 of the Enterprise Developer Personal Edition software that can be downloaded from the Micro Focus website? If so, could you please provide me with the link for it. (I do not know if any of the programs, data files or any other elements had to be changed or updated for the Version 2.1 of the EDPE software - but if they did then it would be good to have this version of the MFETDUSER folder containing the Bankdemo application.) Did anyone else encouter the same problem with the EDPE Version 2.1 Bankdemo application that I have just encountered?

Question 2:

I have noticed that there is now a GA version of the Enterprise Developer Personal Edition software that became available in November that can be downloaded from the Micro Focus website. Should I download and use this newer version of EDPE than the copy of the Version 2.1 software that was sent to us in the product delivery notice email back in October, which is the version that I am having difficulty with now.

I await your reply.

Thanks

Hi Stanley,

sorry for taking this long to reply, but for whatever reason I missed this one. To your questions now.

I will start with Q2.

Question 2: Yes, we are GA and the latest version is 2.1. I would recommend that you complete uninstall Enterprise Developer Personal Edition 2.0 and and install 2.1.

Question 1: No changes were done to the Bankdemo application, just changes regarding to location.

I understand that you have uninstalled and installed, and that is when the problems have started.

I believe you are using Visual Studio, and if so -- could you please download the latest from community.microfocus.com/.../601.editing-cobol-and-jcl-in-visual-studio-2010.aspx and let us know if you are still having the same issues?

Thank you so much and apologies for the delay.

Julia

Julia:

I do appreciate your response to my note from awhile back - I know you are a busy person.

I had been watching the notes and communications about the upgrade to the Enterprise Developer PE software and the problems that had been encountered by others in trying to use it. I simply wanted to record the particular problem that I had encountered with the upgrade in terms of using the Bankdemo application - nobody else seemed to mention it, and perhaps this problem may have been limited to just myself. I was able to work around it and it did not hold me up. Of course I will download and install the 2.1 version of the Personal Edition software.

Thanks

Stanley
