Problem:

When attempting to upgrade from Enterprise Developer 2.1 to 2.2, you receive errors like those shown below:

Registry key not found. Key = 'SOFTWARE\\Micro Focus\\...

Solution:

As the above messages show, the Enterprise Developer installer attempted to install Visual Studio 2010 SP1 (a pre-requisite for Enterprise Developer 2.2), and it failed.

The user was attempting to upgrade Enterprise Developer 2.1 -> 2.2, on a Virtual Machine (VM).  He had 2.5GB of free space. He felt that 3GB would have been sufficient, but added another 20GB, and the upgrade completed successfully.

According to Microsoft, it can fail with that error for several reasons (no internet access, disk space): http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/trying-to-install-the-service-pack-1-for-visual/d9ef0c29-9bbd-40db-bf27-3795d785b07d

A first step would be to try the SP1 installer to see if more meaningful information is shown:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23691
