Rocket Enterprise Developer (Eclipse DevHub SSH): Can Ubuntu be used for remote dev/debug if Production runs RHEL 9.8?

We are setting up our remote development architecture for mainframe-migrated COBOL applications using Rocket Enterprise Developer and would like clarification on target Linux distribution support.

Our Environment Setup

• Developer Workstation: Windows (AWS Windows Workspaces running Eclipse IDE)
• Connectivity/Transport: DevHub using SSH for remote compile and interactive debugging (per Rocket DevHub SSH Documentation)
• Production Target: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.8 running Rocket Enterprise Server
• Proposed Development Host: Ubuntu Linux

Background & Question

In our development environment, developers need to inspect code, perform remote compiles, and run interactive debugging on a remote Linux server before committing code to Git.

While our Production runtime environment is RHEL 9.8, we are evaluating whether we can use an Ubuntu Linux server as the remote compilation/debugging host for our developers.

Could you please clarify:

1. OS Support & Certification: Is Ubuntu officially supported/certified as a remote build and debugging target server using Rocket DevHub via SSH with Eclipse?
2. RHEL vs. Ubuntu Parity: Are there any known caveats, toolchain incompatibilities, or runtime binary differences when compiling/debugging on Ubuntu if the eventual production target is RHEL 9.8?
3. Best Practice Recommendation: Does Rocket strongly recommend matching the lower development compile host directly with the Production OS distribution (RHEL 9.8), or is Ubuntu considered a fully functionally equivalent option for the remote DevHub workflow?
