We've been running your basic mvs jcl to back up a vsam file to a gdg. It has been running for 3 months just fine UNTIL last night. It appears to hang up an generating the new gdg entry. I've done a listcat. The shows x entries, max number of entires to create. WHen I try to print a record from each of the existing entries eg (0, -1 , -2), the job also hangs up. Any ideas??

Turns out the index file of the vsam file ended up hosed. We rebuilt the index uxing the rebuild file index
utility but it ended up 1500 records short. We had out network guys restore the vsam file and it works just fine.
Have no idea why hte indexes were corrupted let alone understand why the gdg's wouldn't work.
But it's fixed.
