I am trying to configure External security manager using open ldap server. Openldap client and microfocus installed on 1 server. Openldap is installed on 2nd server

Following steps have been performed using the link below:

Installing the required schema extensions
Configuring the OpenLDAP server
Creating standard Micro Focus application containers
Adding default MFDS users, user groups and resources

http://documentation.microfocus.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.microfocus.eclipse.infocenter.enterpriseserver.unix/HHSACHESSA25.html

I will try to attach logs and other schema info.

While adding LDAP security manager in Microfocus using Enterprise server security option (left hand menu option) I am experiencing connection issue:

SF0027E Error 16/101/4 SAFMGR initialization failed: Error reported by ESM Module

Really appreciate for quick help on this.

Let me know if you need more info.

I don't see any option where I can attach log and schema info document with this request on this forum. I can send in email if you need.

There should be other messages in the error log (either console.log, or the MFDS journal, depending on where you're seeing the ESF error) with more information.

If you are seeing the 16/101/4 message from ESF, this is a generic top-level message indicating that a more-specific error occurred earlier and caused initialization to fail. While you may be encountering the same problem as Ashish, it is just as likely that you are running into something entirely different. You should not assume based on a single message that you're seeing the same issue.

The ESF error code 16 means that initialization failed; reason code 101 means an ESM could not be initialized; and 4 means an ESM Module returned error code 4 for initialization. Error code 4 from an ESM Module just means "an external error occurred", for example because the actual external security manager rejected a request from the ESM Module.

Without the previous error messages from the ESM Module, there is no way to tell why ESF could not be initialized.

I was able to resolve this issue.

For the benefit of others in this forum, Below mentioned is my root cause analysis of the issue:

Micro Focus Studio Enterprise Edition 6.0 provided with a script called "configure_openldap". When the script was executed, the script installed Micro Focus compatible OpenLDAP libraries and updated the LD_LIBRARY_PATH with the location of these LDAP components.

We never had to update the Security configuration section on "ES Admin Page" with the path of these LDAP components.

With Enterprise Developer 2.1, this has changed. Micro Focus no longer provides LDAP Modules and expects the Security config section to have LDAP components path listed explicitly using an environment variable called "provider". Example: provider=/usr/lib/libldap.so

Also, the other catch is that with Studio Enterprise Edition 6.0 msldap_esm module worked out of the box when we ran the configure_openldap script as it took care of 32-bit/64-bit affinity depending upon whether the product was installed as 32-bit or 64-bit.

With Enterprise Developer 2.1, on a 64-bit Unix OS, you if you have installed Enterprise Developer 2.1 as 32-bit(As in most of the cases), then you should installed 32-bit version of OpenLDAP and update the Security config section on the ES Admin Page with the path of LDAP library path. Only then the ESM Module lsldap_esm can successfully bind to the LDAP server.

Unfortunately, None of this is clearly documented in Micro Focus Documentation site. Hopefully this write up will help others on this community with understanding how ED2.1 is different from Studio 6.0
