Timed out or cancelled while waiting for server error

Problem:

Starting a region from the Enterprise Developer IDE was failing to start with the following error:

"Timed out or cancelled while waiting for server: BANKDEMO to start"

The region would appear to start if started from the Enterprise Server Administration page, but when any job was submitted, the following error would occur:

Timeout connecting to server at MFNODE:0.0.0.0,MFPORT:0

Error opening conversation: (15) timeout expired

MFCC error in MccMfbinpCall: \\Bankdemo\\Sources\\jcl\\ZBKSTMT.jcl

MFCC request timed out

Failure submitting: “C:\\MFETDUSER\\BankDemo\\Sources|jcl\\ZBNKSTMT.jcl”

MFCC error in MccFreeContext:

MFCC object in wrong state

Solution:

Problem was caused by a firewall blocking the machine's IP, and so firewall rules were created to allow access.
