Problem:
I was asked to follow up on a couple of things re the blue-screen server issue. One, when starting the blue screen server as the project comes up, the "monitor" screen looks different from the way it used to, and it seems to come up slower... I'm guessing it's maybe because of changes to MFE as a result of the latest product update but there's no way to tell. Two, if you could tell us why the server .exe's shown in the task manager is different -- sometimes we see both the XSRV one and the XSRV40 one (not sure if I have those names right, but you know what I mean, the short vs. the long name), sometimes only the XSRV one. Any idea why?
Resolution:
The "monitor" screen is not the server. You can click the top right X on this screen and shut it down when the server starts and you will not see xsrv40n in the task manager. The Server no longer displays as a blue screen and it shows as xsrvn in the task manager.
This was documented in the websync readme:
o SQL Option for DB2's blue-screen server has been replaced by a new
executable. The new executable runs as a Windows application rather
than a console application, so does not require a console when it
is running. To maintain the look and feel, the SQL Option monitor
application (XDBMONN.EXE) runs when the new server is started.
Note that pressing Esc used to terminate the server, but pressing
Esc now only causes XDBMONN to exit, leaving the server (XSRVN.EXE)
running. To shut down the server, the XDBMONN utility includes an
F10 option on the main menu. If you exit the XDBMONN utility you
can restart it by opening a Mainframe Express command prompt and
running the XDBMONN command.
