Batch File Transfer

I am currently using RUMBA 8.2.  I was hoping to set up a batch file transfer between our IBMi and our windows network.  I'd like to just run a batch as opposed to executing 45 seperate RUMBA file transfers.

However, under the 'Transfer' menu, the 'Batch' option is greyed out and not available.  Same with the shortcut on the RUMBA toolbar.  Does anyone have any idea why I may not be able to set up a Batch Transfer?

Thanks,

Ray Dutil

Hi Ray,

the reason those two toolbar icons and two menu items are greyed out is because those are for 3270 sessions. To access the batch file transfer in 5250 sessions, open the file transfer dialog via send or recieve, and then under the "Transfer" | "Batch" menu option.

Thanks for that, TomFitz.

I was able to open the "Transfer" | "Batch" menu option. I created a Batch Transfer .btf file. But how in the world do you add individual data transfer definitions (.rto files) to the batch?

The MicroFocus RUMBA Help documentation has been less than helpful. And I can't find anything online yet that provides a simple explanation for RUMBA 8.2. Also waiting on a call back from Microfocus Support.

As I continue looking into this, it looks like a 'Batch Transfer' may only available when connecting to a mainframe and not to IBM iSeries. I'm currently looking at some online RUMBA 8.1 documentation, and detail on Batch Transfer only exists under the heading of "Mainframe File Transfer" and not under the heading of "AS/400 File Transfer". Any idea if this is true?

Hi Ray,

for 5250 sessions you need to save each individual file transfer as an .rto file, then under "Transfer" | "Batch", you add each .rto file which you saved off earlier.

To add each .rto click on the control highlighted in the red box below.

To remove an individual .rto file, select it then click on the X control, to move up and down in the list click the relevant arrow controls.

The Buttons on the right are for the .BFT file, to save and configure it.

Thank you again. I understand now how that window works. Didn't try that button on the bottom to add a "Transfer" .rto file to the batch.

Now the answer to one questions leads me to a few more if you have the time and willingness to help out.

I added three "Transfer" .rto files to my batch and clicked on the "Run Batch" button. Before each transfer is run, I get prompted for my iSeries user id and password. Is there a way to avoid that credentials request for each transfer if I want to run this batch transfer overnight? Or is that something that has to be adjusted on the iSeries server to stop that credentials request from happening each time?

If I configure the Batch Transfer file to run on a recurring basis at 2am, how does that batch job get started? Do I have to leave my PC on and my RUMBA session open all night for that to work? Is there a service job that runs in the background somewhere that will kick off that job?

Thanks again for you assistance.

Nevermind, TomFitz. Thanks for all your help. I just got off the phone with a Microfocus Rep and he was able to walk me through the rest of the process and answer my questions.
