At times it may be necessary to trace SimXfer activity within RUMBA Mainframe sessions.

Problem:

Sometimes it may be necessary to provide Product Support with diagnostic information about SimXfer in the form of a RUMBA binary trace.

Resolution:

  1. Close all RUMBA sessions including any RUMBA software items that may be present in the Windows System Tray.
  2. Using REGEDIT, locate the registry key SimXferTrace at: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WALLDATA\\OFFICE\\MFRAME
  3. If the DWORD exists, please ensure its value is set to 15. If the DWORD does not exist, please create it and set its value to 15.
  4. Click Start > Programs > RUMBA Folder > RUMBA Administrative Tools > RUMBA Trace.
  5. In the RUMBA Trace console click File > Clear Binary File. This ensures that no previous data is in the trace from past attempts.
  6. In the RUMBA Trace console click Options > Configuration.
  7. On the API Selection tab, click the Select All button.
  8. Click on the Output tab and check the Binary File check box. Make sure there is no checkmark next to Formatted to ensure that only a binary trace is saved. Make a note of the folder where the Binary File (RUMBATRC.BIN) will be saved. You may wish to re-direct the output of this file to the desktop to make it easy to locate. Click OK button when finished.
  9. Minimize the RUMBA Trace console.
  10. Using the minimum amount of steps, reproduce the issue.
  11. Log off the host if necessary, and close the RUMBA display session if possible.
  12. Maximize the RUMBA Trace console and choose File > Exit to end the trace.
