Hello, we are in the planning stages of upgrading our Rumba user base from a number of older versions (7.x, 8.x, 9.0) to 9.4 for purposes of standardization, support and security. One question that has come up regards a small segment of our Rumba users who have applications that do screen scrapes in Rumba. My question is whether or nor the placement of fields on the Rumba 9.4 screens has changed at all from the earlier versions? My concern is that if any of the fields being scraped have shifted or moved even a column from the older versions, that this will cause problems.

Hi jestor1,

assuming your users will emulate the same terminal types as they have with the earlier versions of Rumba, then the screen scraping solutions should work unless the screens which they are scraping have been modified at the host side.

Your users should test their applications to ensure that the screen scraping functionality is working as expected before upgrading to the current release of Rumba, if all works then they should upgrade and repeat the exercise. This will hopefully rule out any changes to the screens which the host is sending as being an issue should your users encounter any issue..

Note: Switching from TN3270 or TN5250 to TLS (or SSL), should not effect how the host screens appear in Rumba.

Tom

Thanks Tom. Great information and exactly what I was hoping for.

Nick,

Do you know anything about how they do those screen scrapes? I ask because I am trying to screen scrape in Rumba, but I am not sure where or how to start.
