Recommendations for installing RUMBA in a multi-user environment.

Problem:

Are there any recommendations for installing RUMBA in a multi-user environment?

Resolution:

Typically, RUMBA is installed on a desktop computer and the user can change or configure settings as per his requirements. However, RUMBA can also be installed in a multi-user environment, such as Windows Terminal Server, where allowing each user to change the configuration might affect other users’ settings. In this case, the recommendation is to create one generic profile and publish it for all remote desktop users.

To install RUMBA in a Terminal Server environment:

  1. Log on to the server as Administrator.
  2. Make sure that the server is in the install mode. If so, then launch the RUMBA installer file (RUMBA_English.msi)
  3. The installer will prompt you to enter the license key. Type in your license key and press Next.
  4. At the User and Interface Folder Settings dialog, make the following changes:
    1. Under User Profile Folders, change:

      C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\My Documents\\NetManage\\RUMBA to C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\My Documents\\NetManage\\RUMBA

    2. Under Interface Configurations Folder, change:

      C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Application Data\\NetManage\\RUMBA to C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\NetManage\\RUMBA

  5. Continue the installation as per your requirements and restart the computer.
  6. Log in as Administrator at the console.
  7. Create and configure the session profiles according to your requirements.
  8. Save the profile files to: C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\My Documents\\
  9. Now login as a regular Terminal Server user from a workstation and check that you can open the profile and connect to your host. You should not be able to change configuration settings as the profile will be read-only. At this point any configuration changes in the session profiles can only be done by logging in as Administrator.

We have Enterprise developer licenses. Is it good to go with RUMBA if installed in a citrix multi environment?

Thanks,
