Environment
Extra! X-treme 9.6
Situation
When upgrading Extra! X-treme 9.5 or earlier to Extra! X-treme 9.6, not all of the previous SSH configuration parameters will be found because the existing “user data location” for the older version will not be recognized and used.
Some symptoms which will be noticed include:
- Opening an Extra! terminal session connecting SSH will prompt host name or Alias, even though previously the user had saved this connection information.
- Opening an Extra! terminal session connecting SSH will prompt for the SSH keys, even though previously the user said to “always” accept these keys.
- The Reflection FTP Client will open, but existing site connections will be missing.
- When new SSH connections are added in the Reflection FTP Client, prompts for the SSH keys will be made, even though previously the user said to “always” accept these keys.
Resolution
If Extra! 9.6 is not yet applied
If Extra! X-treme 9.6 has NOT already been applied to Extra! X-treme 9.5 or earlier, there are a several alternatives to avoid the situation: (listed in order of preference)
- Option A1: Install Extra! X-treme 9.6 with Update 1 (build 9.6.1024) already included.
-or-
- Option A2: Install Extra! X-treme 9.6 with Update 1 (build 9.6.1024) added from an Admin Install:
You can then install Extra! X-treme 9.6 from this location to upgrade from Extra! X-treme 9.5.
See the following link for more details on creating an Extra! X-treme Administrative Installation Point: https://www.microfocus.com/documentation/extra/9-6/user-guide/setup-environment.htm
-or-
- Option A3: Create an MST file for deployment with Extra! X-treme 9.6 (build 9.6.1016):
Drop Row:
ATM_LOGDIR Wrq_UserDir_HKLM
Add Row:
ATM_LOGDIR Wrq_LogDir_HKLM
Use this newly created MST file on a msiexec command line to install the ATMEE96.msi file.
If Extra! 9.6 is already applied
If Extra! X-treme 9.6 has already been applied to Extra! X-treme 9.5 or earlier, there are two possible mitigation paths to resolve the situation: (listed in order of preference)
- Option B1: Reinstall Extra! X-treme 9.6 using Update 1 (build 9.6.1024):
- Remove Extra! X-treme 9.6.
- In the previous section above, follow either Option A1 or A2 to install Extra! X-treme 9.6 with Update 1 (build 9.6.1024).
- After re-installing, delete the following file folders: (to prevent future confusion)
C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection\\Logs\\.ssh folder
-
- Delete the settings.rfw file from the C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection\\Logs folder.
-or-
- Option B2: Manually edit the Microsoft Windows Registry:
-
- Set the new values listed below:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\WRQReflection
- Set the new values listed below:
UserDir %personalfolder%\\Micro Focus\\Reflection
-
-
- KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\WRQReflection\\RSECURE\\KB5
-
-
- After editing the Windows Registry, delete the following file folders: (to prevent future confusion)
C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection\\Logs\\.ssh folder
-
- Delete the settings.rfw file from the C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection\\Logs folder.
Cause
The “user data location” in Extra! X-treme can be defined using the default of C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Extra! or a custom location as defined at installation time (described in KB 7021889). A corresponding set of folders for Reflection components included with Extra! will be found under C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection and will contain the sub-folders of .pki, .ssh, logs, and the Reflection FTP configuration file of settings.rfw.
A new/fresh installation of Extra! X-treme 9.6 on a machine which has never had a copy of Extra! installed, will correctly create and use the C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection folder which contains the sub-folders of .pki, .ssh, logs, and the Reflection FTP configuration file of settings.rfw.
If a copy of Extra! X-treme 9.5 or earlier is upgraded to Extra! X-treme 9.6, then the sub-folders of .pki, .ssh, and the Reflection FTP configuration file of settings.rfw will incorrectly end up pointing to the C:\\Users\\<username>\\Documents\\Micro Focus\\Reflection\\Logs folder. This means that existing files from the older version of Extra! will not be recognized and used, specifically for SSH connections and FTP file transfers.
