This knowledge base article describes how to increase the time-out period for Web-to-Host sessions.

Problem:

Web-to-Host session times out after a few minutes of inactivity.

Resolution:

When a session times out it is disconnected from the host. The host time out period for a particular session is set using the Session Configuration Manager Wizard.
  1. Launch the Session Configuration Manager Wizard.
  2. Click on the Client Options tab.
  3. In the Inactivity time out, in minutes field, enter a value from 0 to 9999. This represents the time out period for that particular session.
For instance, entering a value of 30 will break the host connection when a session has been inactive for 30 minutes. Entering a value of zero (0) or leaving the box blank indicates that the session will not time out.

Approximately 10 seconds before the time out limit is reached, a message box appears warning that the session will be disconnected. Clicking the Stop Timeout button resets the timer, maintaining the existing connection.

Performing operations in the host screen, such as entering a keystroke or opening a dialog box, also resets the timer. In addition, the timer stops when a user accesses the Help or opens the Color Mapping dialog box, allowing unlimited time for reviewing the user guide or mapping colors. This setting is also ignored when HLLAPI support is enabled for the session.
