This article addresses what to do if you receive a "Failed to load component vsxrte" message when applying the latest WrapPack of Net Express 4.0.

Problem:

During the install of the latest WrapPack of Net Express 4.0 (ALL08N40.EXE), the IDE FixPack is failing with the following error messages:

Failed to load component vsxrte

Invalid access to memory location

[Abort] [Retry] [Ignore]

The above is followed by the message:

Microsoft Visual C Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program:

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.[OK]

From this point, the WrapPack resumes the install with the rest of the FixPacks. At the end, it reports that the following FixPacks were not installed: RTS10N40.EXE, XFH10N40.EXE, and CMP10N40.EXE. Obviously, IDE11N40.EXE was not installed either.

Resolution:

1. Stop the Micro Focus Directory Server service by going to Control Panel, AdministratorTools, Services.

2. Stop any application or service that is using Net Express runtime files.

If the above steps do not allow the WrapPack ALL08N40.EXE to be applied successfully, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the folder where the TEMP environment variable is pointing to

2. Look for all08n40_xxxxxx.log with the latest date and time stamps

3. Do a search on COB32API

If COB32API is found in the log file, it should be within the following message: "An error was detected while installing C:\\Program Files\\Micro Focus\\Net Express\\...\\COB32API.DLL.....The installer will now atte...".

If this is the case, then rename or delete COB32API.DLL from the bin directory of Net Express (for example, C:\\Program Files\\Micro Focus\\Net Express 4.0\\Base\\bin) and re-apply the WrapPack. This should fix the problem!

If COB32API is not found in the log file or deleting or renaming COB32API.DLL does not resolve the problem, please call the Micro Focus SupportLine to investigate this further.
