Problem:

Net Express 5.1 installation appears to be completed without any errors, but License Management System does not list any product. For this reason, it is not possible to:

• generate a Request Key to exchange with a Response Key
• apply Update (formerly known as WrapPack)

Here is the error message when one tries to apply Net Express 5.1 Update 4:

Resolution:

Attempting to install Net Express 5.1 (base version 5.100.0157 that comes with the media) on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 may fail or appear completed without any errors. In either way, a key in the registry became corrupt, and it cannot be removed through the normal uninstallation process.

After the above attempt, installing Net Express 5.1 Update 1 or Net Express 5.1 Update 6 (both full product) may appear to be completed successfully, but the License Management System is still unable to read the product information from the registry.

Here are the steps to fix the issue, which may require assistance from someone who is familiar with Windows registry:

1. uninstall Net Express from Programs and Features
2. open the Windows registry
3. delete the Micro Focus key from one of the following:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE if running Windows 7 32-bit
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node if running Windows 7 64-bit
   Note: It may be possible the deletion fails with a permission error. This is why it is recommended to have someone from the IT group, for example, to assist as it would require a knowledge on granting permission or changing ownership of the key and its subkeys
4. download the following files from the Product Updates page of MF SupportLine according to the level of Update you wish to run on:

If you must run Net Express 5.1 with Update 4:

1. install Net Express 5.1 Update 1 (nxp3251010074.exe)
2. apply Update 4 (nxp3251040083.msp)

If you want to run Net Express 5.1 with the latest Update:

1. install Net Express 5.1 Update 6 (nxp3251060079.exe)
2. apply Update 10 (nxp3251100022.msp)
