Problem:

Net Express 3.0 installation on Windows 2000 service pack 3, Error duing installation of service pack 1, error 255 when trying to install compiler fixpack.

Resolution:

Uninstall  Net Express 3.0 and prepare machine for reinstall.

Suggest installing Net Express 3.0 into a folder with no spaces, for example-> c:\\ne30

step 1) uninstall Net Express 3.0, retain license

step 2) make sure no folders exist from previous installation attempts

step 3) set tmp and temp environment variables in both system variables and user                      variables  to c:\\temp

            How to set temp and tmp:

            goto My Computer and right mouse click and select properties

            click on Advanced tab

            click on Environment Variables...

            In System and User Variables:

            highlight tmp and click on Edit and make changes:

            For Variable Name:  TMP

            For Variable Value: c:\\temp

            highlight temp and click on Edit and make changes:

            For Variable Name: TEMP

            For Variable Value: c:\\temp   

step 4) disable anti-virus for installation

step 5) copy net express 3.0 from installation cd to hard drive folder, for example -> c:\\net30i

step 6) use Start->Run  and run the setup.exe in c:\\net30i

step 7) copy net express 3.0 service pack 1(svp00n30.exe from Micro Focus websync) to hard drive c:\\sp1

step 8) use Start->Run to install service pack 1 from  c:\\sp1\\svp00n30.exe

Check to see if license is ok .

Run product to make sure everything is ok.
