I have application which is developed in VS 2003 with Net express 4.0 ( cobol) and which is working very fine.

Now I want to upgrade this to VS2008 and net express 5.0.

This project has main solution, within main solution we have 5 project/library,
3 class library written in .NET and 2 written in cobol.

.NET Library is getting upgraded and compiled.

.Cobol library is getting upgraded however it not getting compiled its showing error "System error - failure during ILASM phase"

I have already tried to add "ilasm" references for project of verion 1.1 and 2.0 folder even though its showing the same error.

I have already done R & D on above error also searched on Google about it, however we did not found any solution for the same.

Operating system i'm using is Windows server 2003 R2
I have admin right's of current OS

It would be really helpful if you can suggest some solution.

Thanks & regards,
Vishnu

An ILASM error usually indicates a compiler error where the compiler encounters some construct that it does not recognize or that your development environment has somehow become corrupt.

You state that you are using Net Express 5.0 with Visual Studio 2008 but this is not supported so I assume that you mean Net Express 5.1. If so then you should ensure that you have the most recent wrappack installed, which would be wrappack 6, available for download on our Product Updates site here:

Try building each project individually by right clicking the project name and selecting Build. If you build the projects individually do you get the error on every one or only a subset?

If you have multiple versions of Net Express installed on this system. please make sure that the PATH and COBDIR environment variables are pointing to the correct version and that your project folders don't contain system files.

You can also try doing a Repair on Net Express 5.1 from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.

You should open up a support incident for this problem if it persists as we will have to ask you to zip up the solution and send it to us so that we may try to reproduce the error in-house.

Thanks.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for quick reply!!

In addition to above query I have done following R & D:

I have tried with doing a Repair on Net Express 5.1 from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.

I have tried building each project individually and getting compiled few library of them but few of them is not getting compiled. Also, we have tried building every one project at same time. Even though same error is shown.

I dont have multiple versions of Net Express installed on this system.

I have created new cobol library and added existing cobol file which is created in net express 4.0 and tried to compile even though same error is shown.

Question:
Recent wrappack 6 is available for Unix and Linux however not for windows. So, Could you please let me know which is the latest wrappack is available for windows OS, please share the path of the same.

Please have a look and let me know if you need more information.

Thanks
Vishnu

There is a wrappack 6 available for Net Express 5.1 and it can be found here:

If you do not see Net Express 5.1 listed on the Product Updates site then your maintenance most likely has expired on this product version in which case you would have to renew your maintenance through sales.

If the compiler works on some projects and not on others then it is probably not an environment corruption problem but instead it is something particular to those projects that is causing the error to occur.

We would really need to have you zip up your project files on which the error occurs and send it to us so that we may review it.

You will need to create a support incident with us in order to do this.
If you e-mail to me your name, company name and serial number then I can do this for you.

Send it to chris.glazier@microfocus.com.

Thanks.
