Problem:
Attempting to install Net Express 4.0 onto a machine that previously had Application server installed. However, the Application Server product was not listed in the 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel, to enable it to be removed.
Error: Setup has detected an installation of Application Server for Net Express 4.0.
Net Express 4.0 cannot be installed while Application Server for Net Express 4.0 is present.
Resolution:
Fully check that no Application Server or Net Express product is installed:
- check 'Add/Remove programs' via the Control Panel
- check via Windows Explorer for the following folders
C:\\Program Files\\Micro Focus\\Net Express OR
C:\\Program Files\\Micro Focus\\Application Server OR
C:\\mfaslmf
- In the Windows Explorer and click on the C:\\Windows directory.
Scroll down to the file names starting with 'M' and 'N'
Delete the following files that is listed in the C:\\Windows directory:
- MFRTS32.DLL
- NetExpress40Uninst.exe
- MERANTNetExpress31Uninst.exe
- mfregsrv.exe
- MFUnweb.EXE
- NETX31Uninst.dat
- NETX40Uninst.dat
- check the registry editor for any 'Net Express' or 'Micro Focus' or 'ASLMF' entries.
If everything looks clean on the PC then try installing the Net Express product. If it still fails with the same error then follow the instructions set out in the Knowledgebase article #20494. That is, rename the registry to Uninstall-temp (as outlined in KB #20494), start the Net Express setup and if the error no longer occurs, rename the registry key back to Uninstall and continued with the installation.
If that still fails then try copying the contents of the Net Express CD onto the hard drive of the machine and run the setup from the hard drive (still renaming the registry key as described in the KB article #20494) but this time install Net Express into a non-spacey folder structure.
