Problem:

Can EnterpriseLink interact with object request brokers?

Resolution:

Today the EnterpriseLink authoring environment allows a developer to access other data sources, applications, or objects through ActiveX controls or embedded Java applets in a EnterpriseLink application.

In the future, EnterpriseLink will incorporate even more support for objects. The Loader will be able to capture the properties of objects made available through an  Object Request Broker (ORB), by reading the  Interface Definition Language (IDL) file associated with an object (In the case of Microsoft, the equivalent is the type library file.)

EnterpriseLink will use the same paradigm of taking mainframe screen objects and working with them in the builder workspace. Similarly, once objects available via an ORB are captured by the Loader, they will be available for presentation to the user as mainframe screens are presented today. The Builder will provide the workspace where a developer can bring together mainframe screens and objects from mainframe screens (via the Loader) and combine them with other objects that the future Loader provides.
